Rsyu
Anyway it's been a pretty crappy week for films, like the week before and the week before that. A film like begin again, as popular as it may be, continuously reaching near the top of the box office charts for a sustained length of time and the pirates retaining it's top five spot for over a month and a half since it's release speaks for itself. September has been a bit of a let down especially following on the tails of that crazy record breaking August. My brilliant life and Tazza 2 failed to live up to expectations and there were no big foreign releases lined up to take advantage. Admissions should see a steep decline this month compared to 2013. Rsyu
Great drop for Maze Runner! Yeah it was lucky it had zero competition this week. Next week there's a couple of local films and Annabelle too so it should be bumped down a few places.

A noticeable pattern from the past 3 years for the month of September and indeed it stretches back until at least 2004 when Kobis first started recording admission data. This can be attributed to the simple fact that most major Hollywood films are crammed in the months between June and August. Relatively low key releases such as Begin again and The maze runner consistently topping the box office proves that. So the fact that the admission figures for foreign films exceeded that of local films for the first time is indicative of just how poor local movies performed this month and no doubt it's the main reason for the overall decline. Movies that were highly anticipated such as My Brilliant Life and, to a lesser extent, Tazza 2 failed to live up to the hype. Even with the decline, year 2014 overall is almost on par with 2013 and in gross it's ahead. The line-up for foreign films for the remainder of the year doesn't look promising so we need some surprising hits and over-performances from local films to stay on pace. Rsyu
I don't think I've mentioned this before but Vod Chart numbers are released on a weekly and monthly basis. The weekly charts only show the top 10. You can piece together the top 10 of a particular month from the four weeks worth of data and it's usually a pretty good representation of the top 10 of that month, but if a particular movie is out of the top 10 for a particular week then you can't get a conclusive number for said movie. The monthly data is accurate but it's updated very slowly, released a couple of months after the end of that month. Anyway, Frozen finally reached 1 million downloads, becoming the 3rd film to do so. Also it was a very strong september for Kundo: Age of the rampant, skyrocketing straight into the top 10 all time. Divine move also found new life in Vod sales, showing a strong performance for 2 months straight. This market, also known as IPTV in Korea, is continuously growing and increasing in importance for film studios as an additional revenue source after the end of the theatrical run of a particular movie.
