Why does China have movies in theaters for only one month. Don't their studios want to keep the movies in for as long as it keeps making them money?

I don't think the regulators are likely to say no to a local studio asking for an extension, but most movies are already dead in the water before the initial thirty days are up, so I don't know how often they're asked. TF4 had local co-production partners, but it's still primarily a Hollywood movie (officially classed as a revenue-shared import) and the Film Bureau evidently didn't want it setting too much of a record.
