Forget DM2. that is just a very average movie and wouldnt have much potential either.

 

I have heard Universal are trying to get KA2 or Riddick released. Any of the two worths more than DM2 for China. The release of R movies like Resident Eivl or Kick Ass 2 or Riddick, if approved, always could mean the officials are more willing than ever to accept those kinds of movies (aka sign of market opener than before). These are potentially new genre movies on Chinese big screen.

 

With MU, Smurfs, Turbo, Cloud 2, Frozen and maybe even Epic if necessary, all to be released within next three months, not counting more local ones. The market is crowded enough for these animated releases. And it doesnot need en extra DM2.

43 + 30 + 23 + 16 + 24 + 20 = 156, so maybe 156m opening week for JP. Maybe $40M (250m) total is possible.  No complaints as it is already doing great for a re-release.

DM2 and Epic both average in story. But I would like Epic more since it has much better CGI.

I haven't seen DM2 yet, but I don't think I'll enjoy it like the first one because I find those minions quite annoying, so over-used.

The story is cliche, the jokes are almost Shrek 4 level, the animation is B grade (uncomparable to Pixar/DWA/Blukesky works) and the Minions are getting annoying.

Minions are lovely creatures. I think Minions are the main reason that DM2 got popular worldwide.

MU's presales are very good, better than JP3D and MOS. But as a animation movie,  I'm not sure if it can break out like action, sci-fi movies....

30M would be amazing for Pixar. I can see maybe FD really breaking out in China (50M+).
