I'm curious when will they open more screens as they might want more IMAX pre-sales. Also went for a quick scan on regional malls and sales are showing up quite well. Decent reservations in Ayala and Robinsons Cinemas too. Once they increase screen times, this will be so much harder to track.

Regional sales (Clark, Cebu, Davao) are steady but not picking up tho maybe it's a... regional thing. Metro Manila remains strong. SM Cinema is slowly adding showtimes everywhere (and they are getting sales right away too). Premiere/Advanced screenings will be on June 11th at SM Mall of Asia and Ayala Malls Manila Bay. This is crazy high level amount and as high as in Singapore, which certainly have way bigger purchasing power than the Philippines. In Malaysia, IMAX costs RM35-40 and that is less than $8. Even your 2D price look insanely unreasonable given the general income level and ticket price in Malaysia is way lower. No wonder Philippines BO decline so much in post-Covid, no way I will go to cinema this often knowing the insane ticket price.

Didn't help that people (including me) were willing to pay those high prices for Eras and there is a tiiny audience willing to pay premium for La-Z Boy Seats and bigger screens + new cinemas have smaller capacities. People in the movie industry have been pushing to lower the prices (just last night in an awards show, the Best Director winner mentioned about it). SM Cinema has been testing a more dynamic pricing style now with local/non-US films (How To Make Millions is doing decently) now being sold at ₱200-275 rather than ₱300-380 but they have to lower the base price for EVERYTHING. But if Inside Out 2 and Deadpool & Wolverine lit up the box office (which is likely), they're gonna keep those prices lol. SchumacherFTW
When I saw GOTG3 at a Robinsons last year, the fact that me and my partner were the only ones there at 350 each was not a surprise. They'd shut 4 of the 6 screens there during the week it was so dead

I think one reason apart from inflation is that they have to recuperate the expenses they had when they renovated their cinemas, which to be fair, are really, really good. I like SM North the most. It's always a great experience, but yeah, the ticket prices are too high.

At 380 the Philippines cinema is charging the almost first world ticket price to third world consumer. How is that a sustainable business model for an industry that supposed to aim at masses? No wonder people have been saying Malaysia's ticket price is among the most reasonable one. I paid just $4 for How to make millions at prime showtimes during weekend. Regardless how, I seriously think this is serious issue for industry. You can't expect to win over streaming with this ticket price.

Let's see if i can update again. Sales are picking up everywhere. SM North already over ₱1 million in pre-sales while SM Fairview/MOA over ₱500K+. I'm curious tho if IMAX screens will eventually be full come Independence Day. Again, highlight on the Holiday but we are in for a strong opening day Thank you very much for this! I love seeing these numbers. I guess you'll give updates on big movies only, yes?

It was a different market, ticket prices soared, and cinema capacity has decreased. SM Fairview surely has expanded.

Yeah and if I have the time by then lol. On top of my mind: Deadpool & Wolverine and Un/Happy For You

Per ClickTheCity, SM Fairvew now has 6 regular + 2 director's club + 1 Large Screen Format. Wasn't there at time where SM Fairview had 10-12 cinemas each with movie premiere-worthy seating capacity? Now, it's biggest seating capacity is around 260. The ones not yet touched on Megamall has a minimum of 400+ and maximum of 980+ (!) where local premieres are held
icebearraven
SM North EDSA, one of the top grossing branch, really is hurt by capacity restrictions. They really needed more space for shops I guess. At the same time, smart move since moviegoing is down. Just weird that the top branch got the cut. Previously having 12, now they are down to 7 regular (with lower seating capacity, max at around 300) + 2 director's club (50 max per theater!)+ IMAX These were even used before for stage plays for hundreds of students. What I know is that the plan is to increase screens and retain the number of seats. So they made cinemas smaller. North is the one I remember having 12 cinemas. But the ones in the mid part of the mall were removed, and those that have been renovated are now what remains including those in The Block. I don't know what has happened to "Cinema 11," the one near the now also closed Serenitea shop. That cinema was not renovated.
