Capote is just "okay". I mean, there's not really much wrong with it. Its competently directed, the time period is captured with beautiful detail and the acting is rather sublime (more on that later) But still it never really caught me. Its a movie I appreciate more than I actually like. The whole movie feels kinda theoretical, like you never quite get sucked into the story or the characters. It is kinda baffling how it managed to get a best picture nomination, i think

The acting makes this movie worth watching. PSH, while never quite 100% convincing, is excellent as Truman Capote. This is just another proof that the man can do no wrong. Also great are Catherine Keener as Harper Lee and Clifton Collins jr. as the murderer with whom Capote forms a close bond. The latter delivers a really underrated performance, Its a shame he didn't get any nominations.

So its an okay film with great acting.

3/5
