Ehh.. There was so much potential for so much more, but the product is just kinda pat and nondescript. For an Aaron Sorkin script it sure lacks bite. On a filmmaking level its professionally done, as you'd expect from Mike Nichols. Tom Hanks was phoning it in, but I really liked Philip Seymour Hoffman and Ned Beatty, though oddly enough my favorite was Julia Roberts. I thought she was absolutely terrific in this.

Nothing to write home about

I enjoyed it quite a bit, even though it definitely could have been more than it was given all of the talent involved on both sides of the camera. Even with a compromised script, Aaron Sorkin's writing is damned biting, and the cast does a fine job of walking the line between the film's alternating comedic and dramatic tones.
