  1. OK number. Not great. Not terrible. Same as Spider-Man 3's midnighter five years later with adjusted cost of ticket-prices plus the 3D bump. So yeah... total spin on Sony's part.
  2. Got word yesterday afternoon WB was already in the black solely from pre-sales and cable rights(!) ShawnMR told me two weeks ago this was breaking $100M domestic. I will never doubt him again... until the next time...
  3. Great debuts for Ted, Magic Mike and Madea and strong hold for Brave. Lots of happy studios this weekend. Except People LIke Us...
  4. The moment Universal moved Ted to this weekend instead of the sacrificial lamb July 13 slot, it was clear they had a winner.
  5. Not surprised especially by Ted. Who hasn't heard office co-workers talking about how funny it looks and preview screenings have been playing through the roof.
  6. Hangover 3 will still gross $200M domestic.
  7. If people are talking about Prometheus, it's generally in the vein of "What the Hell was that?" or "God...that was a disappointment!" And I'm someone who liked it!
  8. Won't go that far just based on Sandler's reliable $25M average opening.
  9. Looking at the competition ahead this weekend... yeah Madagascar 3 will be #1 again.
  10. "Shockingly" does that mean no Snow White & the Huntsman 2: Electric Boogaloo?
  11. Still think Prometheus' actuals get it under $50M.
  12. They've been trying to make a Venom movie since the mid 90s at New Line (envisioned at the time a la Cronenberg's The Fly). I'll believe it when I see it.
  13. The Hangover 2 only dropped about $15-$20M off the first one domestic. Clearly it wasn't as hated by the public like the Internet thinks.
  14. Don't know where anyone stands, but I always doubted the realistic chance of Scott's Blade Runner sequel happening. Now with Prometheus... can we safely close that lid shut?
  15. Kids love Superman, Batman and the Hulk too. Their relaunches struggled. You're not taking into account how bad the marketing for TAS has been, its mixed reaction and the fact they're starting everything over after the ill-received Spider-Man 3. Those factors will hurt its box-office. At the most...$225M and if the 3D bump really helps (which it doesn't always See Wrath of the Titans still not crossing $100M domestic and John Carter). International? No doubt it will save Sony's bacon here.
  16. Funny...same thing happened with Blade Runner. Big first day. Then droooooop!
  17. You're overestimating Spider-Man's brand-name value. Personally I think it gets past $200M. But under? It is possible.
  18. Estimates say $49.5M for Prometheus. Anyone betting on actuals going lower?
  19. Still banking on Prometheus going lower as the weekend goes along, i.e. high 40s.
  20. The Variety guys are great (Fucking awesome job taking over for Fleming). But it was obvious they were blowing their wad saying $70M was in play for Prometheus.
