  1. Superman II, III and IV would like to have a moment with you in private.
  2. My point has been it's not guaranteed to break $200 million on 3D and brand-name alone. Not that it won't.
  3. A $300 million+ last installment that was universally hated (Biggest second weekend drop in that series), starting everything over with a new cast (after the public knows the Raimi cast as those characters), retreading the same territory ten years on and nowhere near the enthusiasm from the masses or fandom. That should always be taken into account...and it never does as we're seeing with Wrath of the Titans. Ditto First Class and Pirates 4 last year. Huge Superman fan (I'm the guy who loved Returns - Hi, pleased to meet ya!) but I know The Man of Steel has a big uphill battle ahead of it thanks to the mixed reception of the last film. Its release sucking doesn't help matters either.
  4. Yep. Shrek 2. You're right. EDIT: I could have sworn some tried to spin its opening as a disappointment on first arrival before its insane legs that summer. Anyone else?
  5. Is The Dark Knight's 52% drop the best second weekend drop for a $100 million+ 3-day opening? EDIT: Nope. Spider-Man. 38% drop in weekend #2. Damn.
  6. The "Oh but it's Spider-Man!" logic is weak sauce when you look at how Batman Begins and Superman Returns both struggled to $200 million. Barely crossed it.
  7. 3D didn't get Captain America or Thor to $200 million. Why would Spidey be the exception?
  8. The hype and/or blind love for the property.
  9. Not surprised about Wrath in the slightest. People never forget feeling screwed over and Clash's 3D was seen by most as a rip-off.
  10. Not to mention multiple times Saturday and Sunday.
  11. Expected closer to $65 million but nonetheless all the positions are where we expected em to be.
  12. Zero doubt. Not trying to knock the guy down. But...he ain't the next big thing he was hyped up to be.
  13. Denzel as a badass is what got asses in seats for Safe House. Not Reynolds. Hell, the TV Spots I saw downplayed his involvement. This is a win for Universal and Denzel, but doesn't do anything for Reynolds (Green Lantern and The Change-Up flopping are still both looming over him) Also the Phantom Menace $33 million just goes to show you the general public doesn't hate that movie or George Lucas like the Internet and fandom claims they do.
  14. We get it, TOLDJA. You hate Relativity Media. Although there's an argument to be made this is Ang Lee's Hulk 2.0 reception wise (Strong opening, toxic word-of-mouth, huge drop, ultimately deemed a flop) to say Immortals' opening day was considered weak is 100% Grade-A Internet bullshit.
  15. Funny. I remember this time 5 years ago when Happy Feet and Casino Royale were selling out to packed screenings. That's why HP2 isn't doing so hot. I call it "Gremlins 2 syndrome," i.e. huge pop-culture movie that waited too damn long for a sequel. By the time it finally came, tastes changed and nobody cared. Still not sure about how Muppets is going to do. Was visiting my sister last weekend and when a TV spot came on she said, "Oh I can't wait to see that!" I quickly replied, "Me too!" Her little ones, on the other hands (two girls aged 7 and 3 and a 1 year old boy), showed zero interest. Immortals...well...marketing promised a 300 clone, and it wasn't. Although I quite liked it. Jack & Jill...what else is there to say?
  16. Judging by that big Saturday drop (and the actuals may very well put it at under $30 M), Immortals could end up being a repeat of Ang Lee's Hulk, i.e. big opening, plummets quickly due to poor word of mouth and labeled a flop. That said, opened a lot better than I anticipated.
