  1. Well, glad Lion King is keeping that July record... Seemingly without even breaking a sweat too... Considering all the kid admissions to that to one probably by an enormous number of admissions too. Glad not because it's good (it's awful) but because we all deserve to be reminded of our sins for making that the biggest July OW DOM. May its record stay in tact for a long, long while. Seems Barbie, after all, wasn't even really a threat to it.
  2. So what are we looking at for weekend numbers? What was the Saturday number for Barbie and Oppenheimer? Thanks in advance! If Barbie's a bit frontloaded for the weekend that can't be super shocking. Other films that opened huge or very big aimed directly at women have been too... Twilight, 50 Shades, Sex and the City. It'll stabilize after an enormous second weekend drop and finish with a ridiculous number DOM.
  3. All Quiet is action heavy and war movie... Some of the scenes feel like a first person shooter. Now, it's incredibly well made but it doesn't shock me at all that younger folks, especially males, liked it a lot. They also liked Saving Private Ryan, 1917, etc. a lot. Now, if they liked something like Thin Red Line a lot... That would surprise me a lot more.
  4. Would've been shocking if the early audience Verified Audience score wasn't high. I have no doubt it's great but those already verified as seeing are pretty much in the bag. That's the case for every movie for a big property or a big name directory. I expect it to stay in in the 90s though. Not quite 95.
  5. Won't get hit nearly as hard as MI7 did but it'll hit Oppenheimer too a bit. I know many act like only the lunatic fringe is watching SoF but that's not the case. And, it's obvious there's crossover with a portion of the audience and portions of the MI7 and/or Oppenheimer audience. I don't think there's as much crossover and SoF is later in it's run and Oppenheimer keeps IMAX screens for a little while so I wouldn't say worried but it will take away some of the audience. Movies that don't have to worry would be Barbie, Haunted Mansion, Mutant Mayhem. Meg 2 might have to worry a little too if SoF is still going strong.
  6. Couldn't agree more that even with its flaws it's aged well especially when you see the widespread success critically and commercially of stuff like LEGO Movie and Barbie which essentially are playing in the same sandbox with similar mega budgets. I mean, who wouldn't want Harry Houdini's magic ticket too? It's a great hook and they have a ton of fun with it.
  7. What was it like when Last Action Hero dropped in 1993? I'm a little too young to remember that time well. I actually love that movie for all it's flaws... It's kinda like the Barbie but it's Arnie in that it's super crazy meta and gets into the real and constructed worlds.... People say it was a big letdown at the time. Was that the general vibe? Did you like it when it came out?
  8. Who'd have thought Commando would age best of the 3 classics? Is Commando to males what Barbie is to females? People that say Commando isn't self-aware are fooling themselves... Is there another villain as closeted as Bennett? I've seen subversive used a lot this weekend... Man, remember when big budget blockbusters were actually subversive and downright fucking insane...
  9. Not a huge Cameron mark but you're kidding right? There's absolutely nothing subtle about Dark Knight, Prestige, Memento, Dark Knight Rises, Interstellar... Cameron is certainly much preachier but still.
  10. Tarantino counts but his stuff is generally hard R so it's harder to appeal to as wide of an audience. Nolan effectively makes movies for a huge audience. I'm actually shocked Oppenheimer is R.
  11. Of course it doesn't but no other director over the last decade is Nolan with original stuff. He's the anomaly. It's compliment him. Only other would be Peele but he's not Nolan in terms bankability.
  12. Meh. One's a ridiculously big IP that's super meme friendly and the other is Christopher Nolan (proven huge name that's done plenty of original huge movies already) atomic bomb movie will an absolutely insane cast. Jordan Peele is a much better example of what you're getting at.
