Nothing about the Wright situation ever made me feel sorry for him. He signed on to write and direct Ant-Man in 2006 before there even was an MCU. Nine years passed between then and AM's release, during which Wright delayed the start of the film repeatedly. Feige gave him more time to work on the script every time he asked for an extension. Wright's main grievance when he dropped out of the project was the fact that Marvel expected his take on the character to tie into the MCU, which had come into existence in the years he had spent dragging his feet. Had he delivered the script on schedule and made the movie in Phase One as planned, there wouldn't have been that overarching framework to which he was expected to adapt. -

JL was filmed long before WW came out and Snyder/Whedon subjected Diana and the Amazons to the male gaze in a very pre-#Time'sUp way. One can never know whether or not the tone-deaf Snyder would have changed anything about Diana's portrayal in JL in light of the reaction to her solo film, however. He considered Sucker Punch to be his feminist manifesto, after all.

This is true but Feige is correcting that like mad now. He told Vulture (or was it Variety?) that he expects DeWanda Wise to become a fan favorite after she appears in Captain Marvel. She is probably playing Monica Rambeau, who was the first female Captain Marvel in the comics. Monica/Spectrum is arguably the most powerful heroine and one of the most powerful Avengers, period. She's definitely Marvel's fastest hero since she can travel at the speed of light, among other things. I can't wait to see what they do with her.

Every year has its surprising success stories. BP appears to be the first for 2018, though I think that many people knew it would do very well. Just not this well. I've been a fan since I read T'Challa's very first appearance way back in 1966. His current surge of popularity was a long time coming and is all the more precious for that.

The numbers don't surprise me one bit. The theater I went to gave BP most of its 16 screens and scheduled 27+ shows. All of them were more than 90% sold, with only the worst seats left. My show let out at 10:40 and the lobby was even more crowded than it had been at 7:45. The place was packed the way it was for AOU and IM3. I'm not making a prediction of similar numbers, but I won't be shocked if that happens.
