Frozen over 900 WW - 100 points - 2 people
Nobody wants to bet against Frozen. Lets cancel this and try a modified version:
Frozen over 1 Billion WW - 50 points - 2 people
-
Tangled dropped 22.6%.
Looks like I was viewing the weekly chart and not the weekend chart.
-
Frozen, (DIS) 2,757 theaters (-222) / $2M Fri. (-27%) / 3-day Cume: $8.9M / Wk 10
If I can add correctly that's only a 25% drop from last weekend. Tangled dropped 40%

On that thought. What's the status of the Tele Frozen watch?
I don't think he should be allowed to vote on the Box Office Best Picture unless he sees all the nominations.
-
I can't believe the Frozen haters club members haven't jumped all over this one:
Frozen over 900 WW - 100 points - 2 people
Still 135 million away if my math is correct.
-
Frozen over 390 DOM - 100 points - 2 people
Frozen over 900 WW - 100 points - 2 people

This is one of the most confusing threads I've read for numbers in a while. Nikki is on acid as usual. I will wait for the almighty god for numbers. Anyone have a goat?
-
Friday Box Office: 'American Hustle' +16% biggest Oscar bounce by far. (Sony - 2204 runs). #6 MLK with $117.8M cume.
No Friday number? No weekend estimate?
I think Nikki's in Colorado tonight.

Ryan doing about the same as Nut Job? That is painful.
-
I wanna know about Frozen.
Hopefully that juggernaut known as Nut Job won't hurt it too bad. Based on Nikki numbers there are already 1/2 million people that likely have sworn off ever going to a movie again.

Nut Job seems a harmless kids flick and squirrels are cute, could likely do 60-70M total
Kittens are harmless... puppies are harmless.
This is the only trailer I've walked out on. ( they played it before every Frozen showing I went to )

He got on Shawn's wrong side.
Left? Right? Top? Bottom?

Notable animated films from recent years:
2013 - Frozen, DM2, Monsters University, The Croods, Epic, Turbo, The Wind Rises, Planes
2012 - Brave, Wreck-it Ralph, Ice Age 4, Hotel Transylvania, Rise of the Guardians, Paranorman, Frankenweenie.
2011 - Cars 2, KFP 2, Rio, Rango, The Adventures of Tintin, From Up on Poppy Hill, Happy Feet 2, Arthur Christmas
2010 - Toy Story 3, How To Train Your Dragon, Tangled, DM, Shrek 4, Megamind, Legend of the Guardians, Arietty,
2009 - Up, Princess and the Frog, Monsters vs. Aliens, Ice Age 3, A Christmas Carol, Cloudy w/a Chance of Meatballs, 9, Fantastic Mr. Fox
2008 - Wall-E, Kung Fu Panda, Madagascar 2, Horton Hears a Who, Bolt, Ponyo, Tale of Despereaux, The Clone Wars,
When you look at that list you really have to decide if you judge on 1 or 2 really great films or a lot of very good films.
I guess I stand by my rankings....
2008 had one great film and a lot of good films
2012 had several really good films, a lot of good films... but no great film.
I still put 2010 & 2013 at the top because they had a great film and several very good films and many good films
2012 comes next because it has more re-watchable films even though there is not a great one.
My new ranking:
2010/2013 > 2012 > 2008 > 2009 > 2011
-
It's ok. I don't remember it. Was it in the movie or credits?
-
2008 is a better year than 2009. Wall-E is at least on par with Up. Bolt is better than PatF. Kung-Fu Panda was the first time Dreamworks managed to make a film that was reaching for more than middle of the road humor. It's also the year Ponyo came out.
I forgot about Wall-E. Wall-E might be the best single animated film but TS3 was great and finished a fantastic trilogy.
2008 had a lot of very good B+ movies - tales of desperation, bolt, KFP, Horton, Madagascar... none of those were great however.
Other years... loved tangled and Ralph and to a lessor degree Brave... but can't remember other movies in those years.
-
I wish Oblivion was nominated.
What song? I don't remember a song.
-
Really, 2013 was a better year for animation than 2009? That is just false.
2013
Frozen, Croods, DM2 and MU - All 'A' movies in my opinion. Everyone of them were good enough to see twice in the theater. IMO Frozen is one of the top 5 animated movies of all time.
2009
PATF & Caroline - A- to B+ - Enjoyed them both but too much Frog in the 1st and too freaky in the 2nd.
UP - One of the best 1st acts of all time... very average after that.
9, Ice Age, Ponyo - blah... Own 2 of them on DVD but never had an interest in rewatching them.
Fox - Did not see.
2010
TS3 - Best animated movie of all time
DM - Better then DM2
HTYD - Equivalent to Croods/MU

With Miyazaki's retirement being reversed, this is pretty much Frozen's now. I still preferred DM2 though
Nominee Statement from Director Hayao Miyazaki
“I and my colleagues are deeply honored that the Academy has chosen to nominate The Wind Rises, my last film, for the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature Film.
Based on a quick internet search ( where the truth can always be found ) Miyazaki has retired/un-retired several times.
Until the Oscars are over I would expect him to stay retired.
-
Because it was. The frontrunner this year wouldn't stand a chance against any of the noms from 2009/2010
I guess it's still not as bad as 2011 but I do long for the years where I could reasonably demand a Best Picture nomination for an animated film
2009 was almost too good. I mean come on, Up, Fantastic Mr. Fox, The Princess and the Frog, Ponyo (which wasn't nominated) and Coraline all in the same year.
2010 > 2013 > 2009

I want The Moon Song to win. Beautiful.
I would not be upset it it won.
I will not be happy if "Ordinary Love" wins
-
We have:“Alone Yet Not Alone” from “Alone Yet Not Alone”“Happy” from “Despicable Me 2”“Let It Go” from “Frozen”“The Moon Song” from “Her”“Ordinary Love” from “Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom”
Well... I just went and listened to all the nominees. Except for 'Let it Go' which I've already heard a few times.
I'll admit upfront that I think this award should go to a song that is in the movie and is part of the story.
So I discount Alone and Ordinary Love. I will say Alone is a beautiful song and that I have no clue how Ordinary Love won the GG.
"Happy" is a funny one. I loved DM2. Saw it twice in the theater and have it on Blu-Ray. I couldn't remember the song. I went and listened to it... still didn't remember it. Finally found the clip in the movie where it appeared. Then I remember it. Not a good sign when a fan of the movie can't remember the song.
"The Moon Song" - Loved it. Haven't seen the movie yet. Based on the context of the song I assume it's part of the movie. As a coder I'm eagerly awaiting the day when I can have an unnatural relationship with one of my programs.
'Let it Go' - I'm a Frozenite and biased. But this song is a perfect anthem for anyone struggling to find their identity. Go to the YouTube clip of it and read the comments. So many people identify with Elsa and her attempt to accept who she is. Add to that Menzel's rendition of the song and the animation of the scene and this hands down should be the winner.
My rankings:
'Let It Go'
"The Moon Song"
"Happy"
"Alone Yet Not Along"
"Ordinary Love"
-
I'll counter that with "won't hit 35m DOM. 50 points. (1 person)
I'll take Shawn's
-
Do we all agree Wind Rises is a lock?
I still have yet to see it.
No. Critics liked Frozen better... GA liked Frozen better. He pulled a Brett Favre and un-retired.
Quite honestly... when I read through reviews even many of the positive ones were wishy-washy... a lot of 'not his best work' and 'not up to his normal standards' type of review.
I don't normally let reviews sway me but I decided to wait until a DVD for this.

Tuesday numbers
in Numbers and Data
Posted
MovieTickets still has Frozen trending at #1 and NJ at #2 which is unusual during the week.
