  1. DM3 is not doing more than GOTG, WW I'm also doubtful about, it would have to have like 95% RT and crazy WOM. Spidey I'd agree on it it wasn't the 7th Spider-Man appearance on film in the last 15 years. Really doesn't feel fresh anymore.
  2. I still just don't get the reasoning behind moving AC from an empty August to a loaded May. It turned out as stupid as it initially looked. Fox only has themselves to blame for the legs this is gonna have.
  3. Honestly, the information would not be leaked for other movies besides the huge franchises with enough superfans to spread it around and make a fuss about it. you could probably still post a negative early review for any movie that's not a big superhero tentpole. same goes for the pre-sale numbers. but I get it - once burned, twice shy. I hope both users in question remain a part of the forum even if they don't share that information. Their presence here is much more meaningful than just a bunch of exclusive info (as fun as it was to get it).
  4. If it was going to another box office based forum I think that would be fine. Problem is it goes to fan sites and fan boards dedicated to a specific franchise. From there you just need a few superfans desperate to prove the information wrong.
  5. Exactly. Those are the the people who leak this stuff elsewhere. The ones who can't take anything negative being said about their precious franchise. If you say something bad they'll question your validity - all over other forums and Twitter.
  6. How would that help? A lurker could have an ISP just as easily as a longtime member could only have a gmail account. That's good for preventing double accounts, not for preventing fanboys from leaking stuff.
  7. the problem isn't the regular posters here (at least not most of us), it's that some posters, or possibly even lurkers, are cross posting information from this forum to other fan forums, and from there it gets spread all over the web. The only way to control it would be to screen members and make certain sections members-only. Or stop giving that information at all.
  8. Ugh. Just ugh. The sad thing is those people who leak information elsewhere probably couldn't be happier about this. The way it usually works is the information that goes furthest is the stuff that fans disagree with or get riled up over. Like unflattering pre-sales or unglowing early reviews. When something positive gets posted it doesn't have nearly the same reach because people don't rush to dispute it. so these people who leaked stuff are probably really happy right now that they managed to shut up those sources who gave them news they didn't want to hear. They won and we all lost.
  9. LOL what? I could care less about this movie. This is one movie I honestly have no investment in - for good or bad.
  10. Eh, don't assume motives. I really could care less about Pirates as a franchise, it's not one I'm invested in one way or the other. I was sharing that I don't feel the hype for this in my circle of friends/co-workers/family. That's anecdotal and might not mean much, but it's still the sense I get. I never said it's a fact that this will underperform, but it is a fact that this franchise has been declining and has spent years on the shelf. We'll see how it does I guess.
  11. Uhm... yeah? Transformers has had diminishing returns domestically with its most recent film. That means that the series is declining from its prime, and if the 5th one "massively underperforms" that's obviously not a rebound. How is that in any way controversial? It's simple fact. 1 Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen P/DW $402,111,870 4,293 $108,966,307 4,234 6/24/09 2 Transformers: Dark of the Moon P/DW $352,390,543 4,088 $97,852,865 4,088 6/29/11 4 Transformers: Age of Extinction Par. $245,439,076 4,233 $100,038,390 4,233 6/27/14 Clearly these franchises still make money (some of them mostly OS), otherwise we probably wouldn't have new movies. But some of the predictions for Pirates sound like it's still as beloved and popular as it was in its heyday, and I just don't see it.
  12. Domestically I think the one with the best odds is Justice League (If WW is good and gets both great reviews and strong WOM). Spiderman is possible I guess, it's more that this is the seventh Spiderman appearance in a movie over the past 15 years, which makes the whole thing feel a lot less fresh.
  13. Hey, don't put words in my mouth and then criticize them. I never said it was dead, I said it was years past it's prime. Which it is.
  14. Yeah, I don't get the huge predictions for Pirates. It's a franchise that is years past its prime, IMHO, and I haven't felt any excitement about it from people I know. Maybe I'm wrong, but I'd be surprised if it made a Billion.
  15. Exchange rates aren't an excuse for why a movie doesn't reach 1B. But if you want to compare how GOTG V2 is doing OS compared to GOTG, and you don't take XR into consideration, you're comparing apples to oranges.
  16. Yup, I'm also thinking actuals will bring it higher. In any case, good weekend after the doom talk over Friday's number. Such a deja-vu to last weekend.
  17. I thought the question was about leading multiple hit franchises. If it's just about being in them, you probably can find plenty of character actors in smaller roles. Andy Serkis, for one.
  18. Speak for yourself. If you have issues with the factors some take into consideration with *certain* movies (as if we don't know which), maybe the thing to do is raise that issue during the relevant discussions. The solution certainly isn't to try and dumb down discussions where this is relevant, and argue for ignorance.
  19. This did make me somewhat interested in the movie, but more than that I think it made me finally decide to read the books.
