  1. A good start would be to not include them on our ranking lists
  2. I agree, even the posts that aren't enthusiastic about the movie should offer something of value to the discussion. If your criticism is just, "This sucks, it's bad and I hope you all feel bad", your comment is really just a waste of space.
  3. Yeah, think about what happens if you enter the Avatar 2 thread and don't start your post with "Hail, Cameron!"
  4. Yeah, I do think there's a big problem when people go over the top on attacking a movie. For example, when the Last Jedi trailer came out there were a few members that instead of just stating their opinion, they literally responded to every single positive comment (or argumentative comment against their side) telling them why they were wrong. That was too much, and I know there have been threads where some members took it even farther. I think it might be good to put a warning in the thread when things are going to far and then if somebody continues give them an actual warning. Because I can see how this line may be a bit blurry to some on what's just posting your opinion, and what's getting aggressive and mean-spirited.
  5. I agree with most of this. I don't think people should consistently flood a thread with why they think a movie or the cast/crew of the movie sucks. But I hope this doesn't mean you aren't allowed to post a "pessimistic" BO prediction, mention why you think something in the movie isn't going to work well for the BO, or only have praise for the movie coming from your posts. I think people should be able to post their honest opinion of something in a thread, but not go overboard on it (which does happen a lot). Im pretty sure that's what the post meant though.
  6. Get ready to embark on an epic adventure through the history of the world! Im creating a list of quality films that I think by going through and watching you'll be able to gain a better understanding of the world's history and cultures. Im excluding documentaries from this, and I really want it to be a way where you can watch quality cinema that also has truthful insights on history. I am also not limiting this to only Biopics and non-fiction movies, the movies also don't need to be about any historical events specifically, I may choose a film because I think it offers a keen insight about a specific period of a country. Not every culture, period, civilization or world event is necessarily going to be covered. It's also important to note I'm doing this to also further my own understanding of World History, so you aren't getting this from a true historian. I should start sometime soon, I just wanted to get the thread up. My goal is for each write up to talk a bit about the specific movie, mention what it gets right or wrong, and also talk a bit about the history the film is covering. Hopefully this should be fun and different from our typical rankings lists! The Timeline Pre-Human History The Big Bang, Formation of the Universe and Origins of Life: Prologue: In The Beginning There Was a Big Bang Movie(s) Used: Noah
  7. Watch this scene and try telling me this greatness doesn't belong on this list https://youtu.be/vOsHoqhbUIU
  8. There were a lot more gems I've seen from this year than I there were. The Princess Bride Full Metal Jacket Evil Dead II Wall Street The Untouchables Spaceballs Raising Arizona Planes, Trains and Automobiles Near Dark Masters of the Universe Empire of the Sun Lethal Weapon Brave Little Toaster RoboCop Fatal Attraction Moonstruck The Last Emperor A Nightmare on Elm Street 3 Predator Good Morning Vietnam! Dirty Dancing Adventures in Babysitting The Witches of Eastwick Lost Boys The Running Man Some not so obvious FYC
  9. No, I do think JB:O will flop. But I think it would have had a chance to do okay if JB hadn't already come out. Similar to how Legend of Tarzan did okay. Also that's just a terrible title. Anything with origins in the title deserves to flop.
  10. Tell me again how Pan did? The Disney tag will to a long way with a few of those. Mulan or Jungle Book could have been big without being Disney. A straight up Mermaid adaption needs the Disney music and marketing to get people excited for it. Similar to Beauty and the Beast.
  11. Updated to include China totals and how many people picked what movie.
  12. 350m for Black Panther? Doctor Strange numbers should be the goal for that, maybe a bit higher. I think Guardians of the Galaxy is the only Marvel movie on this forum that hasn't been vastly overpredicted.
  13. Yeah, I remember saying Boss Baby looked like a hit that could do Trolls numbers. I'll wait until we get a trailer and more metrics. But The Star has a lot going for it. A good release date, festive theme, religious appeal (but not in a way that'll turn off non-religious), talking animals, high profile/fan base celebrities, etc. 150m+ looks like a shoe-in.
  14. Definitely not in South America. Europe would also pull semi-decent numbers.
  15. I think people are misjudging how well the Star can play with the religious crowd and how well it can cross-over to the not as religious as well.
  16. So next time I do a list I'm going to try something out. You get to pick 3 movies to "vote against", and take points away from.
  17. Part of me agrees with this, but then another part (that I tend to base my decisions on) says 300m OW / 1b DOM Baumer's prediction is a nice, happy medium.
