...But LA county just recorded its highest number of deaths in over a month for this past weekend, and cases are rising again. So I wouldn't put all the eggs in that basket, yet.
Well it's staying now.

It comes back to this chicken and egg problem - if not Tenet, what could work as a canary in the coal mine? Without Tenet/Mulan/WW84 major chains won't open until AQP2...and that's the problem (from their POV), being allowed to open but don't have anything to show and the reliance on studio content meaning they need that over indie/mid budget stuff

Warning! Some UK newspaper twitter accounts are posting a major plot spoiler today (they're calling it a rumour but I'm guessing it's true). Pricks.
Yeah it's a legit spoiler - the call sheets they came from (which I've seen) are legit I believe

Only way I'm watching this opening weekend is drive-ins.

Sneider is claiming WB is looking for a new date.

so is Mulan gonna move too? I remember reading somewhere that said if Tenet moves Mulan was likely to follow.
Yup. Almost definitely

From the Total Film article (originally interviewed in April it seems):
Emma Thomas: We're going to be ready for our planned release date. We'll have to obviously play it by ear and hopefully the world will be back to some sort of normal in which people can go back to movie theaters by that time. It's really out of our hands. The only thing that we can do is be ready with a great movie, and we will be.
Nolan: We're finishing the film and the film will be ready for when the theaters reopen. I think that, at this stage, is all there is to say about it, really. I mean, even by the time this article comes out, the world will have changed again, but hopefully for the best.

Lockdown is falling apart in the UK, so I've gone from thinking "it'd be madness for this to keep its release date" to "governments are mad, so I guess it might as well keep it now."
That's ultimately the problem at the root of all this. There's zero incentive for WB or chains or anyone to not take governments at their word even when they are mad.

Based on how things went with Irishman, the right choice. Gets the full theatrical window and wide global release via Paramount, then just skips traditional home ent and goes onto ATV+ 16 weeks later or so. Criterion or similar Blu-ray probably too.

There's an IndieWire Zoom webinar happening - NY/LA apparently only make up to 12-14% of domestic box office according to Paramount’s head of US distribution - but he’s bullish on Tenet still opening on 17th…thinking it might not necessarily move if NY/LA aren’t open...

VERY bad idea to put it right in between Black Widow and James Bond of all things
Also by June you mean 2021?
If November happens, the GvK date, Bond is surely gonna move to Nov 11 in line with OS release. And Widow possibly goes a week early like OS release...or both just get pushed to 21?
And yes, June 2021.
50 minutes ago, Maggie said:Of course it will move. We are rapidly approaching June and theaters are still closed in the majority of the world
Most of the world's theaters should be opening up - as in governments will let them - by July. The question is will the US (LA, NY and other major metropolises) and the UK (currently set for July 4).
And of course the factor is if WB/Nolan grow a conscience and realise when Trump/Johnson says things can open, they kinda should not...

Someone on Blu-ray.com forums is claiming November and June dates are being considered...which makes sense after the thing with Godzilla possibly moving to May

Does Tigris Snow NOT turn into Tigris the Hunger Games stylist turned cat-woman we meet in Mockingjay? The TV Tropes pages for the Capitol Characters suggests that she isn't. I'll be a little annoyed if that's so, Snow turning on his cousin to restore the family name would be brilliant.
But I still haven't finished the book.
Tigris is indeed the same character

Disagree with the above - it's definitely a Hunger Games novel that uses the games as a springboard to go deeper into the inner workings of it all - which is what I always hoped for from any prequels etc.
Torn between whether this is better served by being a miniseries or a film...but in any case, needs a new title. HUNGER GAMES X?

Is it me or is Washington's character seem less cold and more humorous than previous Nolan protagonists?
Yup.

Haven't really had chance to post my thoughts here but folks...this is gonna be a fun movie. This trailer sells exactly what I was imagining the 'Nolan does Bond' initial pitch would be. He's really really indulging - and clearly having a ton of fun doing so - the classic spy movie cliches (Russian villain? 'No, Mr Bond I expect you to die'? All the locations?) and putting his timey wimey twist on it. The trailer, especially in comparisons to the initial teasers and prologue, is surprisingly light(er) on its feet. Love the - I'm sure it's not Ludwig but still - Tron: Legacy-esque music here and the way Goransson's main motif comes in at the end is just epic, and the details such as the reverse fight moment having the score also seemingly reversed.... Pattinson bringing his best Tom Hardy/Eames in Inception energy here too.
So glad to put the release date/state of the world and industry concerns to one side and just enjoy the hell out of this.

Warner Bros. removing the release date is their first acquiesce to the possibility that all near-future/2020 release dates are fluid. There will not be a date on the trailer.
There wasn’t on the teaser tv spots so yeah of course there won’t be here.
