  1. Did The Host under Red Riding Hood thread get deleted just as it now has a serious chance of happening?
  2. I did think GIJ2 would have the highest rank, but I figured it'd be in the 50's and The Host would be in the 30's.
  3. I'm sure she won't. She hasn't written anything new for 5 years and these days she's decided she'd rather be a film producer. I doubt the brutal reviews are making her anxious to return to a world she's already avoided for years.
  4. Saying you envision something as a trilogy in the middle of promo can't really be taken seriously. This thing most likely won't crack 20% on the TM and will be lucky to have a $20 mill OW and people seriously think there'll be sequels? No.
  5. Those are franchises that easily lend themselves to sequels. Snow White is very much considered a one-off story to the general public which makes a sequel a hard sell even if the film had been well received. Which it wasn't. And the one thing that most people praised about the film, the creativity of the visuals, is in jeopardy since they've canned the director. There is an almost certain probability that a sequel will make less than the original. Other than Kristen Stewart, no one is dying for this to be made, including her own co-stars who all have better things to do.
  6. Yeah, I still don't think this will happen. It's to her benefit to act like a sequel is happening since it gives the first the appearance of being a huge success, and well, it makes it seem like there's no personal taint on the experience for her. But Hemsworth isn't talking about it. There's no news about a director being hired. And while Charlize and Hemsworth might be contracted for it, I doubt either will go out of their way to try to push it through. And without the active, behind the scenes campaigning of all the leads, a borderline sequel like this can be left behind.
  7. I know it's ridiculous, but 18.2 feels sort of disappointing now knowing how strong matinees were.
  8. I still don't think this will happen. There's no reliable industry source saying this is in the works. And even people who saw it don't have any desire for a sequel. Hemsworth says there's nothing official. http://www.mtv.com/news/articles/1697704/chris-hemsworth-avengers-thanksgiving.jhtml
  9. I didn't say it would be blamed just on her, but she may take some heat for it. She brought a ton of bad publicity to the film. And if any of this blows back on her, with all the competition amongst young actresses out there already, she may find fewer offers rolling in.
  10. You know, Stewart actually may care about this. If it underperforms and any of it is blamed on her, that could affect her future casting opportunities. There are plenty of actors who aren't box office draws, but actually hurting the box office of a franchise that was cruising along cannot be good for one's rep.
  11. You know after all this speculation it's going to end up not being as frontloaded and pull out that $135M OW
  12. Ask J.Lo and Ben Affleck. There's any number of reasons it could have a negative impact. Oversaturation, aka the Gigli Affect. Or it could be that people find them less appealing as an idealized romantic couple knowing that their relationship is either fake or completely dysfunctional.Or it could just be Twilight fatigue. BD1 did worse than Eclipse, after all.
  13. Variety says $66M Friday. http://www.variety.com/article/VR1118062344?refCatId=13
  14. I think we're all bored. Any chance to throw real numbers around and we jump at it.If this really is a $65M Friday, are we going to assume this may not be as frontloaded as previous installments? Or is it really going to drop off that much from BD1?
  15. Isn't Nikki notorious for bad predictions on holdovers? My guess is she's so fixated on Twilight she's dropping the ball on everything else.
  16. IF she's right on Twilight, I'd say it's a mix of fatigue (BD1's poor multiplier and opening under NM points to this as well) and people being turned off by how the gossip overtook this film. They tried to do damage control, but I think a lot of fans and even the general public might have felt saturated by all the sleeze and PR crap. Gigli affect.
  17. Seriously? I assumed I'd come in here and see some numbers. What up, Nikki?
  18. I really don't think midnights/10 pm showings are completely interchangeable. Someone can hit up a 10 p.m. showing and still make it to work/school with no problem the next morning. A midnight showing is almost a commitment to either coming in late or being a zombie all day. More people are simply willing to see a 10 p.m. movie than a midnight movie. So from that perspective, I would've expected a slightly higher number. But I also think a lot of this audience has grown up and may be content to wait until Fri/Sat night now. And the Aurora factor could still be in play. Like others, I think we need to wait for OD numbers to know if this will be even with BD1 or get a bump from the finale factor.
  19. We're already hearing rumblings about a Justice League movie. They have to be thinking about a Batman reboot to go along with it.
  20. That's what I said as soon as it was announced. Dropping the sequel news on Thursday night before the film's second weekend, seemed an obvious attempt at squashing some of the bad WOM. I really don't see it happening.
  21. If Spider-man follows the pattern of this summer so far, it should break out. Films with the most hype seem to have been disappointing, while films with mixed expectations have been overperforming.
  22. It affected perceptions. I doubt anyone here would've thought $50 million would be a good opening for this even a week ago,
  23. Well, looks like Universal's obvious low-balling worked and now apparently a sub-50 opening is considered great. Cause there's no way that's what they were expecting with how much money they've poured into this.
