    Going to repeat my post from yesterday, but the Hobbit movies have content from non-hobbit sources too, including LOTR appendices. So the studio was probably better off calling the movies LOTR and using 'hobbit' in the tag line. Eg: Lord of the Rings - A hobbit's tale, Lord of the Rings - Desolation of Smaug, etc. That could have retained a lot more of the LOTR audience.

    If it does 31 mil, it's 17.4% less than the first movie's friday (37.5). that would be an improvement over the day, as the midnights were off by 32%

    I think they should have continued calling the movies Lord of The Rings instead of the The Hobbit. It's not true technically and may sound stupid to some, but if the 3 Hobbit movies were called something like, Lord of the Rings - A Hobbit's Journey Lord of the Rings - The Hobbit and Smaug Lord of the Rings - There and back Again probably would have retained more of the audience that made LOTR 300+ million blockbusters without 3D tickets and inflation.
