  1. Frozen will be 290+ by next weekend. Tangled added 32 million to it's run after new years weekend. Frozen would need to add 55-60 million to reach 350. I don't see how it doesn't get there. To fail to get to 350 Frozen's legs will have to go from being head and shoulders above Tangle till new years, to not even matching it after new years.
  2. Piracy is somewhat a result of the combination of great promos + horrible films. Entice folks through great marketing. Then give them a shitty product once they pay for it. Obviously can't return it. After a breaking point is reached, if a promo sucks me in again with...paid for four star reviews...entry to some xyz film festival..."best film of the year" by the newspaper we bribed...and the best parts of the movie shown in a trailer, I will deal with it in a way that doesn't require payment and obvious disappointment.
  3. Iron Man 3. I prefer farts to sharts.
  4. I don't know if it's something about the demographics that DoS attracts or the night shows it has, but it's initial numbers are routinely underestimated by around half a million till studio estimates come out the next day. Other movies have been falling extremely close to non-studio estimates while DoS goes up significantly(relatively speaking, as estimates go). Maybe it shows a bump from non-family Hobbit/Tolkien fans at late night shows. Or maybe it's performing better in the west coast than elsewhere.
  5. Family films have a big saturday when friday is a working day. Frozen is going to stay flat on both sat and sunday. I think DoS will take Sat. Sun will be close.
  6. I guess it's ok for someone to point out how something isn't spectacular if they feel it isn't. if everyone feels TA was spectacular would someone who didn't think so, keep himself isolated and not opine so folks can "enjoy".
  7. Also, Frozen may not to get to 30mil. As Thu and Fri was already a holiday, the usual Fri to Sat bump won't be there. Sunday will be a drop so the weekend multiplier might well be less than 3. Of course 27, 28 or 29 would be great too, but just sayin.
  8. Did the GA not see the trailer before going in. What did they expect? Leo to adapt a wolf cub who he names Jack and raises on wall street. the cub helps everyone including saving an old lady from a mugging. on it's 5th birthday, a car driver runs over it and the wolf dies. it turns out the driver was that same old lady it saved earlier. everyone cries. Leo says "come back..come back...come back jack"...screen fades out to "Wolf of Wall Street"
  9. It needs about 200 more. If it gets 30 this weekend(might stay put on Sat while others show an increase). 25 over Mon-Thu, and 25 over Jan 3-5 it will have 300 by then. 120 more after holiday season to catch CF. DM2 is going down for sure
  10. Christmas day over-performed...maybe this was coming? Frozen-frenzy to start in 3..2..1..
  11. Err...I will wait till some more reliable source verifies this. Nikki has been under-reporting DoS all along, since the 1st weekend. She was flip-flopping with DoS and Anchroman thru the night on DoS's 2nd friday. Would be surprising for DoS to show a drop considering how 2002 behaved http://boxofficemojo.com/daily/chart/?sortdate=2002-12-27
  12. Nikki Finke ‏@NikkiFinke5m Friday Dec 27 Box Office: 'Frozen' looks like #1 tonight with $10M, 'Hobbit 2: Smaug' $9.8M. Neck and neck all weekend? https://twitter.com/NikkiFinke/status/416821579377410049
  13. Grudge Match is not irrelevant at all. Madea Christmas, Grudge Match and WWD were within 100k of each other on Thursday and finished #10, #11 and #12. Who will be in top 10 this weekend? That's the million thousand dollar question. Made more interesting by, yes, Grudge Match.
  14. Potter 1 and Monster's Inc in 2001 had big jumps, though with smaller numbers http://boxofficemojo.com/weekend/chart/?yr=2001&wknd=52&p=.htm
  15. There are still no actuals for Gangs of New York http://boxofficemojo.com/movies/?page=daily&id=gangsofnewyork.htm Did Mirmax never return from the holidays
  16. Looking at 2002 http://boxofficemojo.com/daily/chart/?sortdate=2002-12-29&p=.htm I think DoS and Frozen will have similar Friday bumps. DoS will have a little bigger bump on Sat, and Frozen will hold a little better on Sunday. Frozen being #1 on Monday is a real possibility http://boxofficemojo.com/daily/chart/?sortdate=2002-12-30&p=.htm Either ways it's amazing.
  17. Talking about girl power, ice girl > man of steel and fire girl > iron man...lol...men are just all bluster i see your iron and steel and raise you some ice and fire
  18. I considered the jan drop. It will conservatively have a 9.5(3.5 + 3.75 + 2.25) million this weekend taking it to 390.5 http://boxofficemojo.com/daily/chart/?sortdate=2002-12-27 Then mon to thursday will add 8.5 more if you see the 2002 pattern taking it to 399 http://boxofficemojo.com/daily/chart/?sortdate=2002-12-30 The Jan 3-5 weekend will drop 30% to 35% http://boxofficemojo.com/weekend/chart/?yr=2003&wknd=01&p=.htm That will give it a 6.5(-32%) million weekend for a gross of 405.5 Then it needs 14.5 more to get 420. If you consider the following weekends alone without weekdays, it will make 3.5(-46%) + 2 + 1.25* + 0.75 + (1.5 more in all the following weekends) = 9, taking it to 414.5. so it needs just 5.5 during the weekdays corresponding to the above weekends *i have not even included the small martin luther king day weekend bump.
  19. CF is on 381 with 3 million today. It can average 2-2.5 over next 10 days and reach 401-406 by end of Jan 3-5 weekend. So 420 is still on though not a lock-in.
  20. New numbers from Variety http://variety.com/2013/film/news/the-hobbit-tops-u-s-box-office-on-day-after-christmas-frozen-heats-up-1201001955/ DOS 10.5 Frozen 8.8 Anchorman 7 WoWS 6.4 Hustle 6.1 Mitty 5 Banks 4.6 Ronin 3.7 CF 3
  21. Hobbit up by <10% Frozen up by <50% Anhorman and Hustle show a drop Banks is flat throw the 2002 calendar comparisons out of the window http://boxofficemojo.com/daily/chart/?sortdate=2002-12-26
  22. Nikki's numberless update Nikki Finke ‏@NikkiFinke23s Dec 26 Domestic Box Office: #1 'Hobbit 2 Smaug', #2 'Frozen', #3 'Anchorman 2', #4 'Wolf Of Wall St', #5 'American Hustle', #6 'Mitty'. https://twitter.com/NikkiFinke/status/416469818288508928
