I hate to be that annoying guy talking about the thing nobody is thinking about, but Top Gun’s Thursday number is bumming me out.

Even with JWD and the loss of premium screens, I thought $10M was a reasonable expectation. A 20% Wednesday-to-Thursday drop is already hefty on its own. A 30% drop though? That might be another record, but in the wrong direction this time, unfortunately.

Here’s to hoping this is the absolute worst of it and we’ll see at least standard Friday/Saturday increases and Sunday drops from here on out.

    I hope Jurassic eats it.

But that's just my Tom Cruise dislike talking. 😛

And you just increased my hopes up.

But then i don't realise why some people are saying less focus on dinosaurs or similar stuff.

Haven't seen the movie yet, but I pretty much know it beginning to end, without even mentioning spoilers, the entire subplot that leads the characters together also leads them into once again interacting heavily with dinosaurs. There is actually a lot of dinosaurs and dinosaur action in the movie. Even with said subplot which I won't bring up, it's primarily a dinosaur movie.

The possible explanation why some people are saying its boring is that the dinsoaurs are pretty much fully digital. And there seems to be a thing going with CG-focused action films like Jurassic Park/World, MCU and Transformers, where people get bored by constant CGI-heavy action.

I have been defending Collin Treverow who revived this great franchise in a way where it still has a future evwn if Dominion disappoints, but if Dominion doesn't have enough dinosaurs then I'll be joining r/Movies and r/JurassicPark for Collin bashing spree.

You could make a trash 10% RT movie if it has Dinosaurs in it, and i won't mind..... And you could make a movie which gets 90% rating but with less dinosaurs and I'll lose it.

What Collin Treverow seems to have done is made a rotten movie with less dinosaurs. That's actually very incredible.

Jurassic Park has a 90% RT score and has less dinosaurs in it than any of the films. . . .did you lose it then?

  4. Being a few minutes shorter than 130 minutes isn't too bad.

With action movies (but in particular superhero movies in general), the sweet zone of run time is between 130-140 minutes. In a way, it illustrates the bang for your buck. But when a superhero film goes from 120-140 minutes in one entry or sequel to the next film being 80 or 90 minutes, yeah, there's a problem. . .it's a sign something went wrong during production. Look at Morbius, X-Men Origins: Wolverine, X-Men: The Last Stand, all three Fantastic Four films (but especially Fan4stic - which has no second act, and Rise of the Silver Surfer), and to a lesser extent the Venom films.

But 90-100 minutes work better for animated movies and horror movies.

I'm watching Fallen Kingdom and I'm struggling to understand the benefit of a Dino that can kill a man once its owner aims their gun at them, turns on a light attached to the gun, and then presses another button on the gun... why not just shoot the gun?

We are now 6 movies in a franchise where people cloned dinosaurs and make horrible decisions. It's highly likely that the franchise's world governments and villains. . . aren't bright.

It's at this point a running gag that even the Netflix series makes fun of.

If this movie somehow touches a Billion Dollar Gross from here, it'll be the greatest Box Office run of any Jurassic Movie.

I don't know how a movie can survive with so much negativity.

The same way Fallen Kingdom did

Also remember, Transformers 4 did, but the reviews won't likely be as bad

Whelp, there you go, Not Enough Dinosaurs in a Dinosaur movie.

Way to go Treverow, listen to social media criticisms amd ignore the love of real paying public.

This is underperforming even if it gets 90% RT.

Basically Colin Treverow has tried to please Critics and Reddit, and forgot the reason why people actually go to these movies.

Imagine Fast & Furious dump fast cars and stunts to have 2 hrs of family vacation because critics might give that better reviews.

    Someone's vastly overreacting.

That or you posted your reactions to tweets about 20 minutes too early.

Yeah thats why i will be sad if it underperformans but it wont be the end of the world and especially not of this franchise. I actually hope they give it a nice hiatus after this movie even if its very successfull and take the time to evalute good ideas where to take the franchise next.

    Plus Camp Cretaceous in July.

I actually really like that show. One might think its just for kids, but it gets fairly dark (One of the characters starts to suffer intense, realistic PTSD from the constant dinosaur attacks) and terrifying at times, Season 3 in particular is an absolute horror show.

  9. I loved Jurassic World and I really liked Fallen Kingdom.

Every leak that drops, every spoiler that's revealed only fills me with greater power, power that makes me wanna

I know I'm gonna love it.

And even if this slightly comes below projections, it won't be the end. After all, Jurassic Park 3 seemed to be the end with its lackluster box office, but we see how that went. There will be more. . .life finds a way.

I want this to nosedive below 5 on imdb because it would be a record breaking perfomance, to make a billion with such a horrible reception, even Transformers weren't that reception-proof and didn't sink that low, I can't think of a single movie with 1 bln box office and average rating in The Marine zone.

God, you just like to watch the Jurassic World burn. . .then again, Fire is in your name so it's not that surprising
