It’s not, but it does sort of try to flirt with being one, at least compared to the typical MCU movie. In a way, maybe you can compare it to Ang Lee’s Hulk in that regard.

Man, Ang Lee's Hulk got away with murder back in the day. It was coming off the success of Spider-man, and everyone was expecting a big budget version of the TV series (the movie itself musically even references themes from the TV series).

Then they got whatever the hell it was trying to be. I was in middle school back then and at that point loved just about everything I saw in the theater, but that was the first movie that made me go "wait, huh."

It's even funnier when the tone of the film's end credits, with a blaring rock song that I guarantee you was't Ang's idea and cartoony comic panels doesn't match the tone of the movie.

Rights issues. The Craven estate has the movie rights and domestic rights which come with it, but New Line has international rights.

Easy way to get out of the jam is for the Craven estate to make a deal with New Line, but we don't know if that will happen or not.

The rights issues here are not as complex as Friday the 13th thankfully. There, the writer of the original movie owns the rights to the movie, but the issue there is that Jason as we know him with the hockey mask is not a major character in that movie, so to use Jason he will need a deal with New Line who own the other movies and the international distribution. To add to the craziness, Paramount owns the title Friday the 13th, so they can't make a movie with that title without Paramount agreeing.

They'll work out something with Friday the 13th eventually. There's too much money on the table for all sides to not eventually agree to something. . . that or find a clever loophole

They probably can´t delay it anymore, the deals is already closed with everyone from the cast to production and theaters.

They would have to pay to move it 8 days prior release, and honestly i doubt it´s worth it, they already spend a lot on marketing.

In 2020 everyone delay without any mamjor problems because theaters was closed, it´s a different situation now.

Perhaps, but they literally pulled A Quiet Place Part II a week from release back in 2020. Granted that was the early days of covid and everything was closing and shutting down.

Nothing is going to be full on theatrical in 2022 if we do not take very serious and emergency action on this. Have read quite a bit about it over last two days but Topol always sums up best.

And this won't be the only variant either. There's gonna be more and more new variants popping up in the coming months, Covid's here to stay for the long haul during the 2020s.

Whether it'll affect releases is another story. Adjustments yes. . . but we'll see :)

Yeh, I honestly don’t see the comparison at all, aside from runtime. Wonder Woman 1984 has way more than 10 minutes of action though, not to derail the thread.

Like I said, it's more superficial. The films are different beasts, but there's a certain...atmosphere to them that they give off.

One thing is at least certain from both films reactions and reviews, they were both not what people expected.

Could be why Wonder Woman 1984 is 71% with top critics. Blogs and vlogs bringing the general score down.

WW84 is being brought up a lot in this thread lol, but I can’t see much in common.

They're both 150 minute long superhero films that are vastly different from their predecessors. They both make the decision to give the action a backseat (WW84 has maybe 10 minutes of action) and focus more on the characters/story beats/exposition. They both have highly divisive reactions with people either really liking them or outright hating them and calling them the worst of their respective franchises.

Superficial I know, "you could say the same about other superhero films" I know.  . . but still. Both were films that people were swearing up and down would be top of their class. . . only for the critical reception to shut that down.

What does make them different is audience reaction. The audience has already seen Wonder  Woman and are divisive over it, however Eternals hasn't had that happen yet. . . the audience could end up loving it.

You may not see the comparison, but apparently a lot do. It's not just in this thread. I've seen it through reddit and other forums.

I must've missed the episode where Diana cried alone in the dark for 60 years over the death of a guy she knew for a few days, then used a stranger's body to have sex and do incredibly dangerous stuff without his consent, only agreeing to give the man his body and free will back when it became clear it was the only way to save the world.

You may have a point but an episode in which

    Spoiler

Diana must save the world from a magic wishing stone wielded by I Can't Believe Its Not Trump does sound like something from that series.

  8. This is shaping up to be Marvel's WW84 - though I liked WW84 (It's essentially a big budget version of the 70s series) so I still have hope with this.

If it fails, Marvel Studios will recover. They got the Hawkeye series and  Spider-man on the horizon - then next year will be nuts - Doctor Strange, Black Panther, Thor. . .the various TV shows (especially Ms. Marvel, which I'm willing to bet will be the biggest hit). Also, apparently it's so heavily stand alone (save for the credit scenes), that they could seemingly course correct fast and treat it like Incredible Hulk.

Still . . perhaps they should have not tried to make a big budget arthouse film and did Inhumans instead - Lockjaw would have made them bankkkkk . . .

Just a reminder that The Last Duel had a phenomenal rebound with reviews. Started with 67% on RT and low 6.something average almost flirting with 5 but ended with 85% and 7.3 average. This year had a number of RT roller-coasters. Wasn't Venom 2 flirting with certified fresh then with rotten and finally settled at 60%?

It's too early. But one thing seems certain - Papa Feige's Oscah dream is over. :sadfleck:

Yes, but no one went to see Last Duel either way. . .so outside of potential awards, it'll be largely forgotten by this time next year. Marvel's first potential dud since The Incredible Hulk won't aford such luxury.

Eternals will either pick up or not. I've always been interested in it, but it's based on a comic barely anyone knows about (which is what Marvel Studios excels at, but in this case, Eternals may have well been an underground indie comic) and it looks so vastly different.

Looking vastly different can be a good thing. . .but it can also be a bad thing when audiences go "That doesn't look like it's gonna be fun. . "

It still stands out to me more than Dune. . .

  10. Spoiler

It's kinda hard taking the whole "Frozen" is ruined! The sisters are no longer together! seriously when Elsa's literally riding to Arendelle in the last shot. The audio descriptive service on D+ and the Blu-ray explicitly states it.

There's no way a Frozen 3 won't have the sisters together again.
