  1. Rumor is they are going to go off on their own. It looks like they are gearing up for it too.
  2. Mike Bastoli (who runs the Big Screen Animation blog, formerly The Pixar Blog) says Small Fry is a disappointment.
  3. Where would you get that idea? Hell, three out of four can already cause an uproar; three in a row should be unforgivable.
  4. Ever since DWA broke off from Paramount and has been flirting with going completely with their own financing for everything, I've been pulling for them a bit more. Nobody likes Goliath. Paramount is Goliath here...But I absolutely hate the franchising strategy and am not a fan of them prolonging this much further. I personally hope this fails enough that they decide to end it, but not enough to take the studio down... And right now, they are living from movie-to-movie (see: stock price fluctuations after PiB opened weakly but had a great hold the 2nd weekend).I think $140m Dom (a bit less than $500m WW) is good enough to be considered mediocre and they can move onto their newer projects relatively unscathed.
  5. Just push Winnie the Pooh and get it over with.
  6. Yeah I did. For me I think it came out at a bad time... I was still hung over from the buzz that was 2010, so IMO, Rango was "just" good when I first saw it. Then as the year went on and everything else that came out was not up to the same 2010 standards (and worse, actually), when I saw Rango the second time, it looked much better... It definitely is the most unique wide release movie of 2011 and I would guess it's the frontrunner. I guess I can believe it's Rango's to lose unless that indie film surprises everyone and takes it.
  7. I'm gonna have to disagree if we're going by internet opinion because I remember having to defend the Ratatouille, WALL*E, and Up trailers quite a bit. Ratatouille was the worst one IMO because I remember all I had was, "but the prescreeners say it's awesome, don't base your opinion on the trailer!" I honestly cannot see why this one is getting ripped this much. The others, I could sorta understand... This one I really do think actually looks epic. But that's just me.
  8. It's always better when the battles aren't internal. By the way, have any of you heard reactions to this trailer from folks in "real life" who aren't the typical interweb message board nitpickers yet? It's been 100% positive on my end, with actual excitement of wanting to see it (not the usual "looks good," but no real desire). Dare I say TS3 level excitement?
  9. Definitely copping out this year. Too lazy to research and I'm not too excited about the animation this year... I'll just follow the buzz this year.
  10. ^ Yeah, I'd just point to Ratatouille for me. I thought the trailers were terrible, but loved the movie and it's my favorite now. And looking at those early trailers, it sure looked like they were trying to market the movie to children with the poor attempts at throwing the "humorous" parts in. So even if I did hate the trailer (which I don't; I still don't get the cynicism right now), I think I'd still be hopeful for this. I'd be more concerned about whether or not they're fixing the AICN preview issues. All those folks defending Cars 2 last year, here is exhibit A as to why I was so vehement that yes, a crap movie will affect future releases. Maybe not, but like the old adage goes, you're only as good as your last movie... Never seen so many skeptics going into a Pixar movie until this one. Not as many of those typical "...but I trust Pixar, they've never let me down before" posts this time around.
  11. ^ Yeah, I know I shouldn't be surprised because it is the interwebs after all, but it still makes me shake my head. Scottish accents - it's a HTTYD ripoff!! Fighting princess - Mulan!! There's a girl in it too. They ripped off Salt!! Oh, and the bear?? They ripped off The Jungle Book!! Oh, and there was an arrow flying through air... JUST LIKE ROBIN HOOD!! OMG, there was a queen, JUST LIKE THE QUEEN!!
  12. I didn't notice the comedic moments feeling "forced," but that's me. I remember thinking the Ratatouille trailers having a lot of "forced" comedy in it so I don't think it's impossible, just didn't think it was as bad as others... That said, Ratatouille ended up being my favorite Pixar film of all time, so I'm hoping for a similar result here. Yeah as I mentioned above, it's not like I've loved every single trailer Pixar has put out. I was purposefully overreacting here but I really am pumped for this now. Scenery looks great, it looks like they have the heart of their story fleshed out ("If you could change your fate, would you"), now just curious to see if they execute as well as they usually do. So far though, I can't wait.
  13. I DON'T KNOW WHAT ALL YOU NEGATIVE NANCIES ARE ON BUT I AM PUMPED AS HELL
  14. Are you talking about the AICN reactions? I'm hoping they address the issues they mentioned now; they're still in tweaking mode after all... But from what I remember anyway, it doesn't sound too bad; just that they didn't think it was up to Pixar-level quality, and that they compared it to a "Disney" movie. If it's anything like Tangled, I wouldn't mind.
  15. Is Pixar's animation winning (nomination) streak over? My guess is yes for this year. Actually for the academy's and Pixar's credibility's sake, they can't and shouldn't nominate a critically panned movie. It'll be The Reader all over again.
  16. Hey Patrick, just a suggestion, I think links to all the Pixar movie threads should be posted on the first post of this thread, for easier fanboy access. At first glance I thought they had scheduled trilogies and my head almost exploded.
  17. Nominees?RangoTintinWinnie the PoohKFP2 or Puss... I'll say PussIndie film
  18. Just saw this too. Sucks. Was hoping to see Eddie again.Ricky Gervais?
