  1. Japanese trailer still the best. And I like the teaser better... As far as U.S. trailers go though, this was the best.
  2. Doesn't sound like Keane is retiring. Sounds like he wants to do more projects and he likely wasn't getting to do them at Disney. Rumors were he was heartbroken when he was taken off the director's chair for Rapunzel/Tangled (and he got a heart attack). I personally don't buy the rumors, but they're out there. So yeah, this was likely coming. Some bits and pieces around the animation studio... Long stories short, King of the Elves has been shelved again. Frozen (formerly Snow Queen) is on track but there was a directorial change, Chris Williams (director of Meet the Robinsons) has been demoted. Ron & John are working on their first CGI film, possibly for 2014/2015. Other directors (Don Hall, Nathan Greno and Byron Howard of Tangled) are competing for an upcoming slot as well.
  3. Still like the Japanese one much better. Aside from the very first teaser, nothing else has made the movie felt as epic.
  4. Man we had a whole thread on the old forums explaining the whole Rapunzel/Tangled budget. With links to articles and everything. Now all down the drain. Sigh. Long story short, Rapunzel was put in production waaaaay back in the day, it began as a sort of competitor for Shrek. Its budget was huge because the movie changed hands many times, so the story changed many times, they used their new paintbrush technology for it, and the production for it to finally be released just took a loooong time. Considering all the hurdles it faced, the amount of money it made back was a pleasant surprise. Put it this way, people were scared it was going to be John Carteresque.
  5. I don't agree that the characters in Brave look any less cartoony than Pixar's typical human. Except For maybe the queen, which personally is fine with me. Merida has a slight resemblance to the white haired assistant of Syndrome whose name escapes me at the moment. If I met a girl that looked like Merida in real life I'd freak out.
  6. Yeah this definitely is a good sign. Looks like they are confident enough in it now to start getting the positive WOM going via advance screenings.
  7. There they go hooking you with a great first act then inevitably disappointing you with the crappy rest of the movie. (For the record I am kidding; though I did want to get in front of the obligatory comments that will be along the same lines...)
  8. If it will bring more fans to the theater, I'm sure Disney won't mind. They might even exploit it.
  9. What does JC have to do with Mark Andrews?
  10. Japanese trailers always kick U.S. trailers arses. What gives. Looks awesome.
  11. I like that the "trailer" is actually an extended clip. it's good to see the tone of movie and I like it so far.
  12. Yeah, sorry, I meant only in Spain. I still wouldn't count Howl's as Disney's anyway.
  13. In 2005 Disney didn't have any nominees from their studio, though Howl's Moving Castle was nominated and it was distributed by them... But if you want to count that for Disney then you can count Chico & Rita for Disney this year since they distributed that as well. ;)In any case, I would have liked WtP to get a nom, but the ones that were nominated that I've seen (I haven't seen C&R and A Cat in Paris), I have no problem with. Just glad Cars 2 didn't get nominated as that actually gives Pixar's other nominations/wins more credibility.
  14. ^ Oh for sure, Incredibles 2 is a standing exception for me. But Bird looks like he's going to be trusted with a lot of live action now, so I'm not even thinking about that any time soon.... And I am not supportive if Pixar chooses anybody else but Bird to helm Incredibles 2, so that's that.
  15. Honestly that's exactly why some of us Pixar loonies just abhorred the idea of Cars 2, especially when it was looking like it was going to be a big glob of fail. I honestly believe that from the beginning, movie-goers gave Pixar movies a chance exactly because it was from Pixar. I don't think WALL-E or Ratatouille or Finding Nemo would have made as much as they did if they weren't Pixar movies... I hate to sound like a broken record, but this is exactly why you don't beat the golden goose like that. That reputation that gets people to say things like the part I've bolded above is worth more than $1 billion in toy car sales... And another failure from them so close to Cars 2 (and if it's a sequel), it might be hard to recover that audience goodwill that they've built up for the past 20 years given the market now. I really hope Monster's University is the last se(pre)quel we see from them for a while.
  16. Well, Winnie the Pooh was released this year. Of course, that was mostly filler and released mainly to boost the home video sale totals...But I wouldn't say it was their last ever. They said the same thing with Home on the Range. It's too ingrained in their history for them not to develop one every now and then.
  17. And with that - it's also a bit disconcerting to think that he wields the most power on the creative side at both Pixar and Disney now, and that quite a few known artists and up and comers have left the company under his guidance...
  18. Cars 2 nominated, really Golden Globes? smhStop encouraging them, please.
  19. Yep. Like tribe says, she's gone as soon as Brave's released like Brad Lewis. Telling quote to me is: "I'm currently not on Braveright now. I do get to see screenings of it occasionally and I'm still employed by Pixar, but I'm developing some projects apart from Brave. There were just some creative differences." She never says she's developing the projects for Pixar. Pretty well-parsed sentence. A bit disconcerting to hear they're still struggling with the story at this point; but then again it is Pixar.
  20. Well, the good thing about having a sucky 2011 for animation is that if Brave disappoints, we can just call it as part of the trend instead of a straight out flop.
  21. Anybody else see The Muppets this weekend? How are people reacting to the Brave trailer? I think Alvin 3 got the biggest reaction among all the trailers shown in mine. I don't think anybody reacted much to Brave... There were some laughs at the scene where the guy pulls his son from behind the big guy but that was it. Don't think that says anything about how it will do of course (I think I remember the Tangled trailers getting the same treatment?). Just curious what others are saying.
  22. I haven't been to a movie that made me laugh so hard one minute then had me biting my lip from trying to keep from tearing up the next for a while now. One of, if not, my favorite movie experiences of the year. A lot of hilarious scenes, I don't want to give any away... I didn't think the Life is a Happy Song (is that the title?) was my favorite of the movie actually. And I loved when the gang started singing Rainbow Connection.A+
