Japan and SK seem to be disappointing definitely.
From what I hear, the movie itself is disappointing

Aren't there holidays? That could help it out
There's one coming up next week GW which is packed
After that idk

ASM opened to $7m+ but had crap legs and ended up with $39M total.
I don't see TASM2 having a better multiplier or a better OW.

The first one did 39 mill. You're saying this is going to drop that much?
Labas meant $3.7M opening week

This is very interesting. Maybe the so called inevitable international increase won't happen.
It certainly won't in Korea and Japan isn't likely either, or if it does increase it will be very small. The competition there at the moment is the biggest in 4 years.
China should increase but judging from the mixed reactions it's been getting it might not be as big as everyone expects.
Hopefully some Latin American countries will break out.

Very surprising. That Wed/Thur is lower than Cap 2 (which opened against Noah's 2nd week) and the Thur # is even lower than Thor 2. What kind of upcoming competition in SK does ASM2 have?
It has zero competition right now. It is being screened in almost half of the total screens and the movie that came in 2nd only has 8000 admissions. Seat saturation being at 10.8% pretty sums it up.

SK was a time 5 international market (I think) for ASM. So this decline is surprising, isn't it?
Yes it is. ASM and SM3 are both ranked in the top 20 admissions for foreign releases here and before IM3 came along Spiderman was the more popular SH franchise.

ASM did 36 mill in SK. Is it safe to say this will do much less?
It's as locked as they come. If it doesn't recover this weekend it won't even pass CA: The winter soldier.
The movie that came in second had just 8000 admissions so TASM2 coming in with that low number is all kinds of crap.

I predict a $8.3M weekend.

I can't believe I'm not excited by that increase...frozen has desensitized me

Game set and match
Sit back and watch frozen take the weekend

are you familiar with the "rocky horror picture show" phenomenon?
RHPS is truly one of a kind. Way to early to suggest something similar may happen in Japan.
-
Well, 6 day equivalent in the UK is higher. $18m vs $17.2m for TASM.
Do you see it outgrossing the first or just stay flat?
-
Rsyu, have you watched TASM2 yet?
Nope, exam week
-
TASM2 had to open big to stand a chance of increasing over the first. 2 very anticipated local films are opening next week. There's no TDKR true and it should do well up to the one week holiday at the beginnning of may but the week after Godzilla and another semi-anticipated local film gets released. Good chance this will have unspectacular legs.
-
Thanks Rsyu. That's a shame about Fatal Encounter. Though I'm looking forward to it still. The ferry incident is really sad to see, it's always hard to witness a nation in mourning.
If it helps, Hyun-bin's acting was praised quite a lot. I think the main problem people had with it was that they tried to put in too much, character development, plot etc so it took away some of the tension from the film. I'll get back to you with my thoughts after I've seen it

are they out of their minds? 50% more seats for a 5-6m opener if it doesn't disappoint vs an 8m+ slam dunk
They can have that, doesn't look like a big chain in any case
the toho showtime hold is amazing

One thing I've been wonder but always forgot to ask, does SK has something like RT where critics see and rate the movie in advance? The Fatal Encounter is next week? I thought it wouldn't come for another 2 weeks.
There isn't a rating website as far as I know. They sometimes write columns about their impressions and thoughts though. A lot of the responses I've read for TASM2 and the fatal encounter was very mixed. Fatal encounter is released next week 4/30
It's rare to say that but South Korea clealy disappoints here...
It has been a disappointing month in general. The ferry disaster has put people off entertainment in general. A lot of the pre-release advertising and press conference etc was cancelled so there wasn't really any buzz to this.

Hard to compare. Good or bad?
Bad, TASM1 opened to 272,155 admissions. Also there's a hyped up local film being released next week good chance this decreases over the first one.
-
Not a good number, barely beat CA2's OD.
