  2. Flipped never got an official release in Korea but due to popular demand by moviegoers and the fact that it was extremely well received (it holds a 9.23/10.0 score on Naver) it managed to secure a release date from Lottecinema this year. I think it was a nice gesture towards the GA.
  3. It's interesting to see the significant effect the weather seems to play on box office, not only in Germany but in other European countries too. I'm sure it's logical and natural for you guys living there, but in Korea, weather hardly seems to affect the box office so it strikes me as somewhat of a novelty. I'm guessing it's not something that anyone did a study on, but I wonder if it is a phenomenon that naturally developed over time as the box office matured, or whether it is just a consequence of the European culture which tends to celebrate outdoor activities more than countries like South Korea. Anyone care to share their thoughts?
  4. Good hold for Homecoming, I think it will hold pretty well against Dunkirk, at least on the weekends, before A battleship Island hits the theaters on week 4

  6. Weekly drops for homecoming in line with Wednesday
  7. So I saw Avengers: Infinity War is set to be released on April 27th in Japan, a week earlier than the domestic release. It seems like a very unconventional release date compared to the norm, but maybe they're trying a different tactic compared to Age of Ultron since that didn't do so well here.
  8. Actor Song Kang-ho is reuniting with Director Bong Joon-ho for the upcoming film "Parasite", the production of which is set to start in spring of next year. This will be the fourth time that they have worked together after collaborating on films "Memories of murder", "The host", and "Snowpiercer" all of which were commercial and critically acclaimed hits. Song Kang-ho explained in an interview that he hadn't seen the script yet, Bong Joon-ho being notoriously scrupulous when it comes to detail, but was excited and interested from what he had managed to hear about it through conversations. If it's as good as "The host" I'm totally down for this
  9. Since everything else rose too, I don't think it can be attributed to just Homecoming. That said, with the lack of major releases this week, would not be surprised if homecoming held better than anticipated today.
  10. There have only been 3 $100M grossing films in SK BO history; Roaring Currents, Avatar and ode to my father. It's not a really meaningful milestone for Korean films but it highlights how difficult it is to achieve. Add to this, it is more difficult for hollywood films and foreign releases in general to resonate across all age groups and become a 4-quad film, which it will need to be to gross $100M. Certainly I don't see any Marvel flick for the foreseeable future, resonating with the older generation in particular to gross $100M. Eventually ticket price inflation may drive the box office to a point where the goal is more achievable but it could be a while before it gets there.
  11. It's pretty good in my opinion, probably my favorite Korean movie for that year. Thematically, it feels a bit like WWZ meets Snowpiercer.
  12. No big releases this week, can see something like: 250-250-210-200-280-650-550 what do you think?
  13. Agreed, incredible start and unexpected too (at least by me). 5th largest 3-day weekend in history...I wonder if any of the local blockbusters of this summer can top it. Top 10 Biggest Opening Weekend (3 day OW: Admissions) 01. 3,357,346 Roaring Currents (2014) 02. 3,216,109 Train to Busan (2016) 03. 2,811,554 The Avengers: Age of Ultron (2015) 04. 2,730,986 Captain America: Civil War (2016) 05. 2,605,721 Spider-Man: Homecoming (2017) 06. 2,436,145 Assassination (2015) 07. 2,370,385 Transformers: Dark side of the Moon (2011) 08. 2,330,130 A Violent Prosecutor (2016) 09. 2,267,694 Snowpiercer (2013) 10. 2,238,564 Master (2016)
  14. That would require 8.5M admissions or thereabouts. It would need a strong hold next week but with no major releases until Dunkirk the good WoM that it has, I'd say it's possible.
  15. Spider-Man: Homecoming passed 3M admissions with 3,008,999 admissions at 11AM.
