  1. Obviously those numbers are heavily influenced by "Cinema Days" discounted prices (3€ 2D - 5€ 3D). Today, with usual prices, we'll see.
  2. A comparison between "Minions" and "Despicable Me" based on the quality of the script is a heresy: a good history against the "nothingness" However I agree with MinaTakla: The Minions have proven to be a very strong worldwide brand, (At this time in licensing area, among animated brands, it is the most requested after Frozen)
  3. The Huntsman Winter's War opens #1 with 1,49M€ (0,13M€ wed preview) well below Snow White and the Huntsman (2,98M€ 5-days / 1,87M€ 3-days). BvS is at 9,90M€.
  4. The Huntsman Winter's War, the Frozen's fake live action, opens yesterday with a poor 136K and freezed reviews.
  5. Zootopia was hardly overestimated on Sunday, 6,07 vs 5,39 actuals (lower than friday 5,58)
  6. A weekend not exciting ended with a box office of 7 million, a decrease of 33% compared to the previous week. Batman v Superman (Warner), is still #1 with 1.6M€; the film loses, however, 60% in its second weekend (it was difficult to repeat the Easter weekend performance) and comes to almost 8.9 million by March 23. In second place, with a decline of 50%, we find the animated film Kung Fu Panda 3 (Fox), with 769K€ euro for a total of 7.3M€ by March 17. Complete the podium the higher new entry : Race-The winning color (Eagle) with 698K€. In fourth place we find Hedi (Lucky Red), with 652K€ (-19%), for a total of 2.2M€ since March 24. At #5 My Big Fat Greek Wedding 2 (Universal) collect 382K€ (-41%), for a total approaching 1.5 million from 24 March. Zootropolis (Zootopia) ends its run near 11,2M$, well behind other animated blockbusters.
  7. Entgroup had different numbers: http://english.entgroup.cn/boxoffice/cn/daily/
  8. I said "waiting for UK and Japan". At the moment, in the other international markets, this movie isn't so impressive and not well marketed, cause, I repeat, Zootopia don't have a great brand/licensing potential and Disney isn't really interested to promote it. Certainly it has a great wom and is strong on social media, but this is generated (like Inside Out) much more by adults than by children: adults don't buy toys, they only pay for them. Usually, the great toy brand borns when we have an "adult-children" convergence of interest ( "childrens want them but adults want them more"). BTW this weekend Zootopia make 42M OS but only 18M came from non UK and China markets despite in many countries childrens are out of school. So it is very very hard find another 80M+ outside UK and China to pass at least Tangled according to your chart. It need another 200M, I think would be really very impressive.
  9. Zootopia is now the third animated movie to pass 200M$ in a market outside USA (the other two are Frozen and Spirited Away in Japan). However is still too early to speak about a "worldwide phenomenon", in fact the overseas gross (waiting for UK and Japan) minus China is near 250M$. Comparing it with other recents animated, WiR did 281M$, BH6 352M$, Tangled 390M$, Inside Out 475M$, Minions 755M$ and Frozen 827M$. So, will be very hard for Zootopia (at least it will not get a Frozen-style run in Japan) to pass 400M$ OS-China, in average with other Disney's (not named Frozen). I remember you that I'm speaking only about numbers, not quality, and that for now, the chinese $ are good for statistics but very light for studio revenues, especially for animated movies that get big business in Home Video and licensing.
  10. BvS opens in Italy (on wed instead of as usual on thu, but we are into Easter week) with 889K€ and a record number of presales. This is in line with the last bat-movie (TDKR) that opens in a preview wed at 800K€ and ended its entire opening week at 6,9M$ (basing of level of presales and strong marketing, BvS could collect 10M+ over the Easter Monday) and significantly better than Man of Steel that collected 1,82M€ in its entire first weekend.
  11. It wasn't a Studios vs Studios battle, it was a High Quality vs Shit battle.
  12. The numbers of the weekend March 17-20 show a decline of 23% compared to the previous weekend, for a total box office of 7.5 million. In first place Kung Fu Panda 3 (Fox), with 2.2M€, for a total of 3.1M€ with previews (KFP2 was at 4,46M€ at the same time). In second The Divergent Series: Allegiant (Eagle), with 698K€ (-51%), for a total of 2.6M€ in eleven days (better of Insurgent that was at 2,34M€ at the same time). Complete the podium the Coen brothers, Hail, Caesar! (Universal), with 531K€ (-46%), for a total of 1.7 million in eleven days. Disney Zootropolis (Zootopia) collect 338K€ (-63%) for a total of 10.7M€. This is another good performance for the animation genre, that confirms its appeal among the moviegoers. However, even if Zootropolis generated strong word of mouth and received very good reviews (some scenes and characters are dumped directly in the pop culture), it failed to reach the level of similar original Disney/Pixar like Inside Out (25M€) or Frozen (20M€). Bad release date? Maybe, surely back to school (IO) and Christmas (Frozen) are better places for animated here. I hope Easter Holidays coming soon will give a new boost.
  13. Nothing of interesting on the weekend 10 to 13 March, which ended with a total of 9.7 million, down 15% from the previous weekend. First spot for the new chapter of The Divergent saga. Allegiant debuted with 1.4 million euro, on par with last year Divergent. Released on Wednesday, the movie has exceeded 1.6 million 5 days total. The new Coen bros, Hail, Caesar! is #2 with 986k euros. The effect of the controversal Fox's decision to give a preview of two days, Saturday and Sunday, for Kung Fu Panda 3 on 400 screens wasn't so strong as expected: only 881k euro, not a good sign for the wide release coming soon. Zootropolis Loses 55%. The Disney animated film, though, thanks to the 913k euros collected, crosses the finish line of the 10 million total since Feb. 18.
  14. Surely I'm wrong, but working in this area (selling entertainment products and toys) I see what (more or less) consumers wants to buy (in a not english language country). So, ranking the brands of the latest Disney-Pixar productions from 1 to 10, I'd say: Frozen - 11 (the toy market operators are praying every day for something of simillar) Sofia The First - 7 Tinkerbell / Disney Fairies - 7 Descendants - 5 Planes - 5 (thanks to the "Cars" connection) Tangled / Rapunzel - 4 (Now in the Disney Princess brand) Big Hero 6 - 4 Brave - 3 (Now in the Disney Princess brand) Inside Out - 3 Wreck It Ralph - 2 The Good Dinosaur - 1 Zootopia: I think between 4 and 6, It depends on how Disney will believe in this.
  15. Yes, and I loved it, but I don't see a great licensing/marketing appeal in it, so I think, as happened for Inside Out, that Disney will say "Let It Go" to its promotion soon. More: Disney isn't too interested to create a new brand for now: They have Star Wars/Frozen as boy/girl main team (SW is exploding everywhere, Frozen is still stellar, analysts says that those two brand alone are responsible of a +10% growth of the toy market in a worldwide level in 2015) and Avengers/Princess (these are rumored to get a lifting by new producer Hasbro) as a second option. Internal competition isn't so loved at the mouse house: for example in "male" brands such as Star Wars and Avengers it is almost impossible to find products related to the female characters, despite the relief that they have in the movie.
  16. If you ask about Frozen to every little ones aged at least four, he/she can explain you that "the act of true love that will save you is not what you'll get, but what you will do to the people you care" instead of "Oh, I'm waiting for the prince charming". I loved Inside Out and Desplicable Me (the first movie) but I think that the last twenty minutes of Frozen have been the greatest thing I saw in the cinema in past ten years.
  17. "forbidden love story"? Seriously, you really have seen this movie?
  18. Maybe cause isn't a "generic Princess movie", it is the "new Princess movie" and nothing of similar have been done over the past 80 years of Disney.
  19. China: Sat 9,61M$ - Total 13,03M$ (day2) SK: Sat 0,88M$ - Total 11,08M$ (day18)
