  1. Completely crazy to release BH6 this weekend, Yôkai Watch will likely kill all competition. Also, bless Japan's reaction to the Hobbit franchise.
  2. Most of those films were released during the very short-lived 3D craze in Japan. Frozen was available in 2D and did most of its business in that format.
  3. Wow, they sure didn't wait long to release the Rurouni Kenshin sequel.
  4. So this Pokemon movie definitely won't reach 3 billion now. First movie not to do so since 2002 I believe. Streak broken after 11 movies reaching the milestone. Doraemon is currently at 4 and Detective Conan at 7 (both ongoing).
  5. I agree. Although I'd take admissions as a percentage of the total population as the best measure.
  6. Pretty decent for a Marvel. Should finish around 2 million admissions and $20 million.
  7. LUCY : 531 478 (615) -35% EXPENDABLES 3 : 463 162 (585) N LES GARDIENS DE LA GALAXIE : 381 925 (672) -48%
  8. Looks like the entire top 10 will be doing ¥4+ billion this year. A great increase compared to 2013 where the 10th movie did ¥3.20 billion.
  9. Incredible performance by Doraemon. It might double the highest grossing film in the franchise's total gross. The difference won't be as massive in admissions but with 5+ million admissions it will be at least 1.5 million more than the usual Doraemon movie. Pokemon is the only 'Big 3' annual franchise that disappoints for Toho this year although it should still pass the 3 billion yen mark. Doraemon and Conan combined will be bringing in close to 20 billion yen (about 8.5 billion yen from Conan and 10.5-11.5 from Doreaemon).
  10. CA2 managed to get a sub 40% second week drop. We'll see if GOTG manages that as well.
  11. It's quite close to CA2 in admissions with about 75k more : 732 878 admissions in 5 days. Using CA2's multiplier, it's looking at a 20 million total.
  12. An increase as well (at least at the 4 mentioned chains). 26,314 admissions against 23,319 last saturday.
  13. Doraemon increased compared to last saturday at Toho+109+Movix+Kinezo, 93,032 admissions against 89,145 last week.
  14. A ¥4.22 billion total for 'Wolf Children' is pretty good but hardly a huge hit. In fact 'Memories of Marnie' will probably get close to that total.
  15. The Doraemon franchise will easily top 80 billion yen total with this. It's coming for Harry Potter in just a few years now. I'm glad it will eventually be #1 and not Pokemon. I like the Pokemon games as much as anyone else but there's no doubt that Doraemon is just the better anime franchise of the two imo.
  16. Incredible hold again for 'Qu'est ce qu'on a fait au bon dieu ?'. It's also doing very well in Germany where it opened decently but most notably increased both weeks since then.
  17. 'Stand by me Doraemon' is really impressive. If it doesn't crash after obon, who knows where it will end up.
  18. If the Pokemon franchise rule continues for the next few years, it doesn't bode well for the gross of the next movies of the X/Y generation.
  19. It's indeed a running gag in the show. Nudity is just not as taboo in Japan compared to western countries, especially the US. Hell, Doraemon is absolutely nothing compared to Shin-chan which is aired right after it every friday evening on one of the major Japanese networks (one of the running gags in that show is Shin-chan showing his butt to everyone). http://mlpforums.com/uploads/post_images/img-2271434-1-tumblr_mpqindYS421sogqcfo1_500.gif And they even have the 'other side' sometimes too : http://25.media.tumblr.com/tumblr_mbcpbtoXZh1qgma1io1_500.gif It was originally published as a seinen (basically in a magazine for mangas destined to an adult male audience) and was just made into an anime 20 years ago and it turned out to be hugely popular and now it's a classic for japanese audience and is watched by people of all ages and both genders.
  20. It's actually pretty close to the march release in admissions but the tax hike since then + the 3D release make for an impressive change in the gross.
