  1. So the BOM average is basically useless because each film's tickets were sold at different prices. This depends on genre (e.g. animated films have lower prices), format (3D, IMAX is more expensive) and location (each cinema has different prices). The only thing that the BOM average can be used for is to calculate the total number of admissions sold in one year for all films combined. Other than that, it is pretty much useless and indicates -once more- why BOM is not as accurate as it claims to be. I think it is unacceptable that BOM actually has an inflation-adjusted chart which they know is inaccurate. For example, here they state that Toy Story 3 sold fewer admissions than Toy Story 2 (http://www.boxofficemojo.com/news/?id=3042&p=.htm) but the all-time chart says otherwise (http://www.boxofficemojo.com/alltime/adjusted.htm). I assume the article is true since the chart is definitely wrong.
  2. These Mojo numbers aren't accurate. Howl's made more than that. Also, Avatar made more than $200M in China. And if you add the Titanic 3D re-release, Titanic also made about $200 million in China.
  3. If you include this past weekend and Monday: ELEVEN-DAY Golden Week
  4. Who thinks The LEGO Movie (currently $452.8M) will surpass Wreck-It Ralph ($471.2M) in worldwide grosses? A discomforting yet inevitable notion...
  5. May 6th will be a holiday too. If a holiday falls on Sunday then it is moved to the following working day. This year, Greenery Day is on a Sunday (May 4th), but May 5th (Monday) is also a holiday. Therefore Greenery Day will be moved to May 6th (Tuesday). Even more money for Frozen! 6. Let's face it: Coming off a month packed with blockbusters like Spidey 2, Godzilla and X-Men: DoFP, Maleficent will be a tough sell. It will face greater competition than Oz. Jolie and her daughter aren't as intriguing an option as Kristen Stewart and Chirs Hemsworth for lead characters (SWATH). However, the 3D and the Disney marketing will help it barely surpass SWATH domestically. I say $165M. Overseas, is the same. Sleeping Beauty is more popular than Oz, but competition is too much. However, given it has a two-week window before How to Train Your Dragon 2 is released in some markets and given that it is the summer season (so greater weekday grosses), I think it can make $290M, for a worlwide total of $455M.
  7. May 1 holiday will help increase weekday grosses. Weekend should result in another drop around 50%.
  8. Yes it's true. But he should stop advertising BOM as the most accurate box office website. Accuracy requires attention to detail, which he clearly lacks in many cases. What's the website's url?
  9. I don't see how these articles show that he's good at predicting. There are many grades below "B" (incl. Frozen at "F"). Finding Nemo had $528.2M before the 3D re-release: https://web.archive.org/web/20110629205849/http://boxofficemojo.com/alltime/world/ It earned $31M form the 3D version (http://www.boxofficemojo.com/movies/?id=findingnemo3d.htm). That adds up to $559.2M, not $555.9M ( http://www.boxofficemojo.com/movies/?id=findingnemo.htm). So don't tell me the rerelease thing is not true. For Jurassic Park it's $557.6 + $71.1M = $628.7M, not $626.7M Links are here: OS w/o 3D: https://web.archive.org/web/20060319023540/http://boxofficemojo.com/alltime/world/ OS from 3D version: http://www.boxofficemojo.com/movies/?id=jurassicpark3d.htm Total as reported by BOM: http://www.boxofficemojo.com/movies/?id=jurassicpark.htm
  10. I agree. He never specifies anything, yet he claims the website is comprehensible. I was just explaining that technically he isn't wrong. But he reports the right milestones in the most wrong way.
  11. He isn't as objective as he claims he is. Do you remember his ridiculous claims in July 2012 about the gross if The Dark Knight Rises. He said it would top Avengers OW (with $214M) and earn $850M overseas. He justs overblows stuff for movies he likes. He's doing the same this year with X-Men:DOFP and Godzilla. He never updates his reports with actual overseas weekend numbers (only estimates) but he claims that his website is accurate. How can that be? He doesn't even bother to add up the initial overseas gross with the gross of the 3D re-release (e.g. Lion King, Finding Nemo). I've told him many times through tweets but he doesn't accept anything.
  12. Box Office Mojo wasn't wrong. Subers just decided that he will report all numbers in dollars even though the records usually refer to the national currency. This is the same for all countries. He's done it before for Japan (TS3 and Finding Nemo) and the UK (Avatar and Skyfall).
