  1. Funny you should say that, because I love Disney's current output. Obviously, not all of their films are good, but I'd roughly say about 75% or so of what Disney has put out this decade I've managed to get some enjoyment out of. However, just because I like a company's films doesn't mean I can't be critical or feel shifty towards business decisions and practices, especially over a major movie studio buying another major movie studio, an idea which hurts competition, a diverse market, and potentially a lot of franchises I have a fondness for.
  2. Looking at his IMDB, the only film he's directed is something called The Land...never heard of it, but I wish him luck with the big shoes he has to fill.
  3. FWIW, my theater's Ferdinand sales haven't been so bad. As of now, its OW has sold around 71 tickets out of 1257 seats (Thursday has 1 showtime, Friday has 4, Saturday and Sunday have 6, and almost all of them are in 71-seat theaters), which is roughly what My Little Pony was at the Thursday before showtime, and it still has a few days left to go. It's not particularly great, as only about two or three showtimes have sold more than 10 tickets, but it's an "original" animated film ("original" in that it's not a sequel or based on a relevant brand) from an animation studio without the adult appeal of Disney, Pixar, or even Illumination, so it's not really all that presales-driven to begin with.
  4. With the recent decision by the MoviePass team to cheapen the service down to about $8 a month, a lot of people have wondered how this impacts moviegoing and the box office. Today, Deadline published an article detailing the service's impact on the November box office, and there are some interesting findings. To paraphrase: Within the list, what's interesting is that the limited releases, like Roman Israel and Three Billboards, have a bigger percentage of the OW pie than mainstream films like Justice League and Coco. Coco also had the lowest MP percentage, though that's probably because of famlies, who will likely have at most one or two people able to use the service. At the very least, MoviePass seems like a blessing for limited films, as it allows people to see more movies and see films they likely would have waited to watch on Redbox or Netflix. What say you?
  5. https://letterboxd.com/film/the-greatest-showman/ Reception from Letterboxd is that the movie is "a'ight"
  6. Off the top of my head, the only time I've cried actual tears has been Toy Story 3 and when I rewatched Tarzan a couple years ago. I guess I can only have emotions towards cartoon characters.
  7. I hope Paddington 2 becomes a reverse Norbit and get Sally Hawkins that Oscar nom. She was an absolute delight in the first movie.
  8. Considering how boring this weekend is, what are you guys predicting for next week? That Rian Johnson joint: $225M Event Film Ferdinand: $18M
  9. Why is Mark Rylance wearing a mop on his head? Also, looks much better than the previous trailer. Evil Mendelsohn is always fun, and the plot seems pretty entertaining, and it seems to have more to it than just "I know that thing."
  10. I feel as if Luca made this movie just for me. Timothee is a babe, Armie Hammer is Daddy, and even Stuhlbarg ain't a bad piece himself ('specially with that beard and glasses combo)
  11. 2019's gonna be a banner year for him once The Goldfinch gets him that Oscar gold.
  12. I haven't seen it yet, but the sexiness of Chalamet already makes the film an 11/10. (Oh, and Ronan's pretty too.)
