  1. Anyhoo, not gonna look at all the NCD sales for obvious reasons, but I thought it woulda been neat to at least look at the re-releases and see all the tickets sold for them at my theater. Just to see how the classics are holding up. American Graffiti: 41 tickets Jurassic Park: 119 tickets Beauty and the Beast: 66 tickets Boy oh boy, do people love them those dinos.
  2. Moderation We’re not doing this “grr critics bad. Grrr critics too nice to MCU movies” stuff. Move along.
  3. The Branagh Cinderella frustrates me because it should be my absolute jam. Love the Disney film to pieces, Cinderella's my favorite fairy tale story, it has Cate Blanchett, Sandy Powell did the costumes, I adore romance stories. And there's so much to love in the way they reinvent the story and expand key roles, as well as just the production values. But I also really hate the characterization of Cinderella and how they made her this bland, passive figure that feels like a total step back from both the Disney film and just a lot of modern interpretations in general. Why a film from 1950 has a more active female protagonist with more personality than a 2015 release is utterly baffling to me and it's a waste of Lily James' charms and talents.
  4. I'm just baffled it even exists. What was the goal in greenlighting a third movie in a series most people don't even really like? Especially when the last film didn't even do all that well anywhere, said last film was set to be on a big decline even in a best case scenario and it's a horror movie (or is it?) that has little to do tonally with the other two movies? Was Disney/Fox really just assuming Michelle Yeoh's eventual Oscar win was going to bring people in? Did they hope this would get Kenneth Branagh to sign onto a Hulu show or something? I genuinely don't understand the goal here.

  7. So what's everybody's Sunday plans for National Cinema Day? My viewing is going to be American Graffitti. First time I've seen it, and I'm quite curious to see what George Lucas created before he destroyed the world.
  8. https://variety.com/2023/film/news/dune-2-release-date-change-2024-warner-bros-strike-1235676007/ 2020: COVID killed theaters 2021: COVID killed theaters again 2022: Streaming killed theaters 2023: Studios killed theaters In hindsight, the final option really does make the most sense. There's going to be nothing to show this Christmas at this rate.
  9. I mean he's still a massively successful producer on tons of projects and has his own production company. He may not get a big-budget deal, but there's no reason he can't go back to his horror roots.
  10. Ah yes. March. The famed dump month where no big hits ever get released. Like I'm mad I have to wait a few months, but this is easily the best date possible, especially since WB/Denis cares more about IMAX than they do Oscars. Second part is right though. Kept telling you guys capitalism would kill us faster than the virus will.
  11. Feel like with Aquaman it's just better to get it over with, especially since you're farther away from Superman: Legacy. And honestly a March date for this is fine? It's still getting Spring Break money, Easter money, and still tons of IMAX play until Godzilla X Kong. Doubt Snow White or Ghostbusters will have the bargaining power to make IMAX say no to more Dune play.
