The Disney Thread | Happy 90th to Donald Duck!
Eric Quinn replied to A Marvel Fanboy's topic in Box Office Discussion
After Last Jedi, Star Wars is nothing but fan service over all the iconography that makes all the Gen Xer manbabies go "OMG my childhood". Pretty much all the Star Wars shows were designed to push as much awkward fan service and cameos and legacy characters, even when they are supremely unneeded, because they're too piss scared the manbabies will have a fit again. And although even the manbabies are sick of this pandering, it's clear to me Lucasfilm will refuse to do anything unique and fun with the franchise anymore, but just do the same legacy hits until oblivion, with even the same actors (That Carrie Fisher deepfake will return and it will be awful). The second creepy-ass deepfake Luke Skywalker arrived in Mandalorian, looking as artificial and lifeless as the action figures people used to play with, and all the fanboys were like "OMG THIS IS EVERYTHING I WANTED. FINALLY LUKE SKYWALKER IS EXACTLY LIKE HE USED TO BE UwU", I knew this franchise was screwed forever. Very sad, but oh well. -

E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial Greater Philadelphia Area Seat Report Final Count (Thu+Fri) Sellouts Showings Seats Sold Total Seats Perct Sold TOTALS 0 21 260 5439 4.78% Total Seats Sold Today: 20 Well...there's a first for everything I suppose. I guess these constant ticket declines kind of make sense (only superfans of the movie will go to see a movie that most people already own at home), so if Avatar follows suit with constant declines, at least we have the precedence. -
I'm never good with overseas/WW box office, but a big DOM jump just doesn't seem possible IMO. Top Gun had a much lower barrier of entry, while M:I is a franchise that has been long enough and consistent enough that people know what they're getting into and that they like it or not. It's also super early of course, but I don't see any hook in the trailer that makes somebody who has no experience with the franchise go "I have to see that!" When Fallout's reviews came out, there were so many "100M OW! 300M locked!", then it just did slightly better than the last two movies. This should happen here though, and 250M isn't bad at all.

Big issue is they already committed to the E.T. re-release. Paramount really should have waited for their big PLF expansion on August 26. Nothing's playing on IMAX that weekend, the weekend's going to be even deader, etc. -
