  1. Good to know the follow-up to Hill's animated classic Allen Gregory is a rousing success.
  2. Haven't paid much attention to the Screenplay category this year, but maybe Eighth Grade could sneak its way in. TBQH, I feel like that movie could have really gone somewhere awards-wise if it was placed in the fall.
  3. 😐 Honestly, I feel bad about trashing this movie, because the crowd I was with seemed to be into it. One of the child actors in the movie was even there...but I'm gonna trash it anyways. People go on about how this film is a feature-length This Is Us. Honestly, I wish this was a feature-length TIU, because then the product would actually be good. It's a mess, it's unsure what it wants to be, it's acting is decent at best and poor at worst (the fact Dan Fogelman managed to make Oscar Isaac's performance weak is unforgivable), its writing is ridiculous, it's ungodly manipulative, it's pretty much a trainwreck. On the upside, this is very, very fun to riff on and laugh at. I honestly want to recommend this to y'all, just so you can see all of the weird, dumb shit this movie pulls, and for us all to have a big laugh over how stupid this is.
  4. Makes me think of the time back earlier in the year when somebody went on about how WB was in shambles and was in danger of being in a slump after Tomb Raider or some shit didn't do that well. Hilarious.
  5. https://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/the_sisters_brothers/ 95% off of 22 reviews, with a 7.8 avg. rating. Good start.
  6. The Front Runner? Also to a lesser extent Destroyer, since it seems like a love it/hate it kind of film.
  7. I'd love to see THUG earn a BP nom, but I feel like being based on a YA novel could give it some baggage. I can see a scenario where some Academy voters may find that they're above a film with that kind of label. Also doesn't help that it seems like a film that will get lost in the shuffle when it comes to the box office.
  8. This movie deserves an Oscar just for that title.
  9. Yeah, no. I know being the resident Timmy T fanboy here makes me sound like a nutcase, but here's the problem. First off, reviews are fine? It's largely landing in the high C's, low B's, which isn't a great result, but certainly fine enough, and isn't an outright panning. Especially since Chalamet is by far the most acclaimed element in the film. Generally, even people who don't like the movie tout that Chalamet's performance was incredible, and he's already riding a huge amount of goodwill with CMBYN and his future projects. From passion alone, he has a great shot. Outside of that, what else do we have when it comes to contenders so far? Ben Foster would be cool, but it feels a touch unlikely. Richard E. Grant is getting a lot of attention, so he seems okay. Adam Driver has also done well, but I feel as if having him getting nominated depends on John David Washington's chances (the Academy pulling another Do the Right Thing I just don't see happening), and JDW is on the fringe, and really depends on if Malek disappoints and/or Redford's movie gets forgotten about. Sam Rockwell might deliver with Backseat. Haven't heard much about Sam Elliott, but maybe he gets in thanks to ASIB being such a hit. Crowe could do well too, but he hasn't been singled out much. I guess Beale Street, Widows, or Ben is Back might make him vulnerable if either of those land. But as of right now, I don't think it's fair to cut him out just yet, unless Kaluuya, Duvall, Stephan James, or Hedges get raves tonight or tomorrow.
