    Tracking firms have all kinds of data, even when there are no presales. Awareness surveys, social media activity, genre, related films, etc. There's a lot more than just presales when firms and industry people/magazines determine this kind of information. A movie like Onward might be harder to pin down, but it's not that difficult.

    The PLF talk is a while ago, but I'm a touch surprised Birds of Prey is still keeping IMAX screens this weekend. I'd have thought that Paramount would have done what they did with TMNT2 and get an IMAX print out for Sonic at the last minute. Guess WB's contracts are stronger than Disney's.

    60% of Detective Pikachu was dull as sin, while 40% of Detective Pikachu was obnoxious, pretty much entirely because Pikachu didn't shut the hell up. If this is worse than that film, we're in trouble.

    I get your enthusiasm, but it is still important to recognize that Sonic's gonna have more kid's tickets, especially on Saturday. Being higher on Bad Boys is commendable, but it doesn't automatically signal an opening bigger than it.
