  1. Well, it didn't take long for this thread to become all about Nolan. But where are the estimates for today?
  2. This thread would be more entertaining if it wasn't all anticipated beforehand. We need a new release so we can have some freaking out over numbers. I expect good things of the Mockingjay pt1 release.
  3. Why is it hilarious? It's very close to my estimate and pretty much to be expected for a kid's movie hitting midweek after a holiday. I don't see people running around and freaking out over it or anything. If there were people having meltdowns I could see how you might find that amusing, but it's been pretty bland in here really.
  4. Hm. I don't deny that superhero movies are popular, but if that was the only draw then every superhero movie would do well. People can identify more with certain characters than with others. If you feel weak and powerless in your normal life then the fantasy of becoming something more is an appealing one. This isn't restricted to the superhero genre either. Take Harry Potter for example. He's a normal kid (therefore identifiable)... until he finds out he's a wizard. People like stories about the ordinary becoming extraordinary. It's the appeal of superhero films... and a lot of other kinds of films.
  5. I'm guessing it came into Disney's possession mostly complete, so Disney itself may be paying for very little. I agree though... I wonder how much its budget was. Probably too much that they would simply trash the project.
  6. This movie is supposedly complete. The original release date (and the one still on most documents) was simply 2014. I haven't heard a thing about when it's coming out though... it seems odd to have gotten no trailers or anything considering how close we are to the end of the year.
  7. I have no doubt that Wed drops are going to be brutal.
  8. If they are going for that audience, I wonder if they've toned ITW down a bit. The original musical is pretty dark. (Then again, so are most actual fairytales).
  9. The theatres near us do, but they don't do it for new releases. According to the sign they have up, they're contractually obligated to not offer reduced prices for a certain amount of time after a movie releases (though it tends to only be the case with large studio movies rather than smaller releases).
  10. Hm. I'm not sure how you're breaking that down. Cheap Tuesdays would definitely be an influence in Canada, but keep in mind that if they're still in school, that leaves less possible showings available for them to attend. Plus it's a school night so late-night showings aren't likely to be as full. Plus, cheap Tuesday is... well... cheap. You still have to account for the fact that there's less money per ticket, so it's not exactly the same PPT increase that you're getting. Not that it's not an influence, but it may not be as significant a one when it comes to actual money rather than the attendance count (which undoubtedly increased due to lowered ticket costs).
  11. Even using that as the comparison, the number for BH6 (if accurate) would be pretty surprising. There is a BIG difference between 91% and 130%. I think most folks doing estimates were high-balling it around 90%. I don't think 130% was even on the table.
  12. It's kind of odd like that. I liked it a lot when I first saw it too, but the longer I think about it, the more I like it even further in hindsight. I really want to go see it again.
  13. I am really eager to see actuals on this. I feel hope but I want to keep it in check and not get expectations too high.
  14. I agree, there is more competition, especially from Annie and Penguins. I'm not sure about Into the Woods. I love it and I've seen it several times, but other than the fact that it's fairy tales, it's not really a 'kids' centric movie. Safe for kids, yeah, but if it's like the stage version it's really more for slightly older audiences.
  15. Oooh... hey! Hey you guys! We've had more posts in this thread about BH6 than Interstellar! I know that's likely to change given the current track record, but it's the first time the BH6 numbers haven't been the secondary subject of discussion (sometimes the third if Cameron or TDK somehow enters the thread) ...yeah, it's silly to be excited over it, but it's still nice to have the general topic talk some more on BH6.
  16. I was just looking for something similar as a reference. Hmm... Well it goes without saying that this would be a higher increase than that.
  17. Yeah. I'm planning to go see it again this weekend (or sooner, if possible). I'm really curious what the multiplier on this will be. Do we have any other animated films opening at this time of year that would be good for reference?
  18. I don't think it'll happen, but it would be amazing if it did. Of course I'd feel incredibly bad for the next Disney film to come out if that did turn out to be the case. Having to follow one really successful film is pressure enough. Heck, even if it gets somewhere halfway between WiR and Frozen that would be amazing. ...but just think if it did somehow earn as much (or nearly as much) as Frozen... that would make all the reviews whose criticisms were (in a nutshell) "It's not Frozen" seem pretty silly.
  19. Er... scratch that finger slip to a higher number theory. I forgot 1 and 0 are at opposite ends of the keyboard. The only possible finger slip in that proximity would have been a 2 rather than a 0.
  20. Hm. If it's just finger slip to a nearby number it could be 10.8 (which also would be awesome). I mean the other possibility is that he hit 1 twice by accident (considering it's two digits) or misplaced the decimal point... either of which would mean he was trying to type 1.8 which doesn't seem likely. A math mistake might be more likely than a typo in this case.
  21. Rth reports Tuesday estimates of 11.8 for BH6. That's a jump of 130%!
  22. Yeah really. None of my friends were off for today. But that makes it all the more impressive.
  23. Oh, I hope it's not. That's an amazing number.
