His boss is mad at his performace as of late, so he gives him 1 more week to get his act together. They will lose customers if he doesn't get everyone their paper everyday of the week, so he has to do his job 100% correct. Also, his boss hates the rival paper, so he informs Sam that he wants him to mess with the houses that don't subscribe to his paper. Sam is unsure about doing this, but he needs his jobs, so he agrees to do it. His mom told him to stick with it and tells a different piece of adivce each day before he goes out to deliver the papers. She use to be a papergirl when she was a kid, so she knows how hard it can be to do it.
Throughout the week lots of crazy stuff happens to Sam that almost causes him to not complete his job, but somehow he is able to deliver every paper to every house each day of the week and gets to keep his job. His boss really thought he would fail, so he is surprised to see him properly do his job. Also, he kind of wanted to see him fail, so he could hire a better paperboy.
Some of the things he encountered on his route include big house cats, fast cars, and even some break dancers. 1 day he even has to deliver the papers during a big storm with big winds the cause his papers to fly all over the place.
The movie ends with Sam's boss telling him the he did a great job and that he gets to keep it. He also informs him that he was so good that more people have subscribed to the paper and left the rival paper.
