  1. Imagine thinking Shuri and whatever her name was are anywhere near Kirsten Dunst's iconic, generation-defining turn as Mary Jane Watson
  2. Defining 'flop' as losing money: Middle Earth universe = no flops Pirates of the Caribbean = no flops Jurassic Park = no flops Shrek = no flops Twilight = no flops Harry Potter universe = no flops X-Men = I'm not sure what the balance sheet for First Class looked like, but there don't seem to be any outright money-losing bombs in this series either
  3. The overseas numbers are actually way more troubling. At this point $500m+ worldwide is looking though. It's most definitely going to lose money, with a $250m budget it needed at least $600m to break even, probably a lot more.
  4. A big problem Star Wars faces moving forward is that the big grosses of the prequels and FA/RO/TLJ were based on 30 year old nostalgia for 1977-1983. "How did Darth Vader come to be?" - prequel trilogy "What happens to Luke, Leia and Han in the future?" - Force Awakens, Last Jedi "How did the Death Star plans get stolen?" - Rogue One It all boils down to those first three films. The prequels are sort of iconic and/or infamous in their own right but the big box office was not based on them independently. The only aspect that people might want to revisit is Ewan as Obi Wan. Right now, Marvel is creating its beloved, iconic properties and films. It's actively developing its legacy. Whereas Star Wars has been resting on nostalgia for 1977-1983. It seems the nostalgia gravy train has run out.
  5. LOTR is always the standard Seeing how Star Wars is imploding, it makes the Hobbit movies look much more impressive. The book fans were not happy, the film fans were not happy, the buzz was bad, and yet people still showed up to the theatre and they grossed $970m average.
  6. Going forward, I think this is the only thing that would really make a big increase for Episode IX possible: - Luke + Obi Wan (with Ewan of course) + Yoda + Anakin (yes, Hayden) force ghosts all in the film and in the trailers, and somehow part of the plot is making the Force Ghosts able to fight and interact with the physical world again so we can actually get lightsaber battles and stuff with them. Basically a DOFP scenario type thing with the PT, OT and new trilogy cast all meshing together
  7. The most obvious way would be to cast well-known Chinese actors and do intense promo there. Although Chinese audiences didn't seem to give a damn about Rose (I also heard some rumblings that they did not like the interracial romance at all)
  8. The fact that a HAN SOLO movie is in the same ballpark as fucking Doctor Strange A lesson for future franchises: don't unceremoniously kill off your lead character as soon as you reintroduce him after a 40 year wait. It will severely piss of the fans.
  9. I think the biggest factor against this is that people associate Han Solo with Harrison Ford too much. He's not a blank slate like Spider-Man or James Bond that can be recast. He's more like Jack Sparrow, forever tied to Johnny Depp. Marvel will run into this issue when they try to reboot Iron Man.
  10. Ava DuVernay should direct the next Star Wars trilogy, and then the franchise can truly be run into the ground.
  11. I mean, no one's job is totally secure. Only Lucas's was back when he owned Star Wars. If Episode IX makes, say, under $400m, then her head will definitely roll.
  12. "Our site"? Sweetie I've been on this site since 2011. I was part of the original cohort of BOM members that came here after those forums were blown up and made this site what it is now. Whether you know it or not, I'm your father!
  13. Well technically her home planet was that random asteroid rock, and her real planetary citizenship should have been Tatooine + Naboo.
  14. Yeah the Boba Fett leak is most likely a last ditch attempt to drum up more publicity for Solo. After all, Boba and Han are linked story-wise, the public associates both characters with one another.
  15. If there's one blockbuster this summer that's reviews-proof it's surely Jurassic World. People just love the dinosaurs, no one goes to see those films expecting a complex plot and great acting.
