  1. Interesting read at Forbes: Why Minions' Box Office Blow Out is Good for Culture They are true original pop culture sensations in a pop culture that seems to be run on generational nostalgia. We all know that at least some of this recycling is both stemming from a misplaced presumption that what was hip yesterday will still be hip tomorrow. In an era when so much of our entertainment capital is geared towards youth-skewing fantasy films and so many of those fantasy products are based on characters that entertained kids of previous generations and seem almost targeted toward those same kids now as adults, Minions stands out as something of a near-miracle. The characters known as the Minions are just five-years-old, are wholly original cinematic creations, and were created specifically to entertain and amuse the current generation of children. The Minions aren’t for you dear adult, they are for your kids. I may not find Minions as hilarious as my daughter did but (without passing judgment on thoughtful adult moviegoers who enjoyed the film), I rather take comfort in that fact. The kids of today, my daughter, my nieces, and all of our respective youngsters, need pop-culture icons of their own, ones created today for the kids of today rather than subsisting of rebooting or recycled versions of our heroes. If for that reason alone, I applaud and celebrate the massive success of Minions. http://www.forbes.com/sites/scottmendelson/2015/07/13/the-minions-box-office-blow-out-is-good-for-our-kids-good-for-our-culture/
  2. Talk about legs for Minions in the UK - a good DOM indicator! From Screen Daily - Minions is tracking ahead of DM2 EVEN WITH the DM2 previews! Not content with its films setting records, Universal has become the first ever distributor to achieve a 1-2-3 treble at the top of the UK box office. Minions retained its UK lead with a superb $6.5m (£4.15m) third weekend for $43m (£27.6m) to date. It is now tracking ahead of Despicable Me 2, which stood at $42.1m (£27.1m) at the same stage and with extra days due to previews. It also means that Minions is now the year’s biggest animation, topping Fox’s Home, and it has a further week to prosper before the arrival of Disney’s Inside Out on July 24.
  3. But Minions had around 30 screens less than IO which makes the PTA and the total gross even more impressive.
  4. I would say around 3.1 or 3 seems about right, which brings it to 116 x 3 = 348 million or 116 x 3.1 = 359. (Am predicting 360).
  5. exactly! i just can't understand why all the hate and downplaying! And says who that it will have terrible legs? It's in its 3rd day!!!
  6. That still doesn't make it terrible at all, it's the second of all time. Tracking had it at 100 million as per THR, Variety and Deadline who all said it will make between 100 and 110. 124 was nowhere to be found
  7. Interesting that minions is still the higher theatre average than IO after 4 weeks! Great holds for both of them!
  8. What are the chances for Minions in Korea? Is it popular there?
  9. Wow - shows excellent legs for Minions! WOM must be very good
  10. Exactly - I don't know why people here keep saying WOM is toxic! All tweets am seeing are positive and all people I asked loved it..The Sun and Sat drops are not drastic at all, one million diff between Fri and Sat.
