And it's equally impressive for both films - Minions because it's the only non disney franchise that reached such heights since Shrek and IO because it's an original film!

Universal is estimating that Minions, the 3-D prequel to their Despicable Me franchise is heading to an astonishing $120.9M opening weekend. The CG animated flick from Illumination Entertainment marched into 4,301 venues Friday, the most North American venues in Universal's history, and left with $46.2M for the day.

If Minions makes 120 million OW, I see it making perhaps 360 or 375 million on a mere 3.0 multiple. But if cinemescore is anything to go by, maybe it hits 380 million? I don't think 400 million is possible due to competition..unless Ant Man flops (unlikely) and Pixels flops (maybe likely). Thoughts?
