  1. https://deadline.com/2023/01/box-office-avatar-the-way-of-water-infinity-pool-cronenberg-1235243380/ Who saw the Bollywood action film Pathaan landing at #5 for the weekend based on its estimated Friday number of $1.87 million (with a $8.4 million (!!!) 5-day total). I sure didn't. Crazy impressive - I'm seeing a lot of nearly-full and even some sellouts in the major cities. In my local town of less than 50,000 people here in central PA, the next two showings are nearly sold out. Imagine how much this film would have grossed if it had been in 2,000 + locations - it could have made it to #2 or $3 behind Avatar!
  2. Thanks for clarifying - I misread it the first time. Still a solid number regardless.
  3. Pretty solid number for The Woman King. Also, from perusing the AMC Theatres app tonight, I'm seeing lots of very full showings for Barbarian around the country (even a few sellouts). I wouldn't be surprised by a fairly low drop for this one this weekend.
  4. It's a pretty fucking stupid culture war, too. From what I've heard, the movie is very anti-slavery (Viola Davis's character was formerly enslaved herself, I believe), and the movie addresses slavery all throughout. I wish people had watched the damn movie beforehand before complaining. Yes, there are historical inaccuracies in The Woman King, but what Hollywood historical epic (Gladiator, Braveheart, Lincoln, etc.) doesn't have them? This movie is no different - it's a piece of entertainment, not a documentary. I, for one, am looking forward to watching this film with the full knowledge that this is "historical fiction" and hopefully will have a good time watching it.
  5. Looking good for Logan. I think Get Out should do higher than just 6 million - I think 8-10 million is much more likely, judging by the number of sold-out showings I'm reading about on Twitter. The Shack should do better than expected as well - I read a few reports of sold out showings, and it's performing like gangbusters in my local theater in Carlisle, Pennsylvania (a very conservative area). When I was looking at the reserved seating, The Shack was almost sold out for one showing and out-performing Logan (!!!), which was still doing very well.
