    For China, even if we ignore the worsening exchange rate, the market conditions is nowhere near 2019, where $1B is not only realistic but I'd say even likely. right now, 58.7% of theatres are actually open, and even in those areas people are very reluctant to go. There are signs that Zero-covid policy is loosening but nothing concrete. Market seems like it's back at pre-2013 level though who knows maybe that's partly because nothing showing currently is worth watching. Moonman did pretty well earlier this year despite all these problems, but I'm not confident in A2 in China going much beyond $500M the way things look; still that's much better than nothing.

    Yes, just want to add that while nothing is officially confirmed. I am also seeing little signs on Chinese social media that seems to be hinting that A2 is indeed getting a release date, announcement is probably coming very soon, and the date seems to be pointing to Dec 15. Cautiously optimistic.

    China box office right now is just a horror show... Never would I have imagined just a few years ago when everything was on the up, that we would witness this drastic decline (and to think just last year we still had the highest grosser of all time). I hope things turn around, even if it's just to an extent.

    Unless we're all in awe of its behemoth, once in a decade performance, that we just sit there in silent agreement; no need for any petty arguments. But yeah, I think A2 opening definitely gets to 100 pages, after then it'll be hard, nothing in 2023 looks particularly likely to get there.

    Let's target 100, I'm much more concerned about the page count decline for big openings over the years than BPWF's box office!

    With how bad the exchange rate are, lack of Russia and the uncertain situation with China (even if released it won't reach its potential there). My threshold for "flop" has gotten a lot softer as well. This is where I currently stand: Under NWH worldwide - Massive disappointment 😆 Under $1.5B Worldwide - Total Flop 😆

    Minions Rise of Gru came out too but barely made anything (that was after a HD version was already online and China movie going already in shambles).

    So how likely do we think a third trailer is on the way? I didn't think there would be one but after seeing this new trailer, not so sure anymore. It just seems to me that a lot has been withheld and most if not all the scenes seem like they are from the first half of the movie, the vibe feels so different from the final trailer for the original that I think there is room for a final trailer.

    Apparently after the Pierce Brosnan thing, some people started digging around about Zoe Saldana and found that she at some point wished Dalai lama birthday or something like that (so technically the reason for banning Avatar 2 is there if they want to). So for the first time I think there is some reason to think Avatar 2 probably won't show in China, before this I was always fairly confident that Avatar 2 would make it. With Avatar it is just really complicated, On one hand, Cameron does seem to have a good relation with China, Avatar itself is pretty inoffensive, there seems to be some collaboration with the CINITY format so potentially some backing from China Film Group, also one can argue, the market needs a big hit in December after what has became a disastrous year. One the other hand, China has beef with Disney now, Avatar may threaten Watergate bridge's highest grossing of the year status, now with the increasingly tense relation with the west... It's just really hard to say, I don't think we'll know for sure if Avatar 2 makes it or not until we get a release date confirmation.

    My thought is that she sounded fine in isolation, but if I keep Sigourney Weaver in mind when listening to her then she suddenly doesn't sound very natural anymore.

    A2 > 2*BPWF domestic literally has more realistic chances.

    Looks gorgeous! This is doing the exact opposite of what the full trailer of the original did, essentially another teaser with some striking imagery, I think that shows confidence. Not sure if the trailer even contains any scenes from a "final battle" and no focus on any "villain" except for Quaritch (love that scene with him crushing a skull). Clearly they are holding on to a lot that they haven't showed yet. I wonder if we're getting another trailer or TV spots containing new scenes from the later parts of the movie closer to release. It's going to be an exciting one and half month!

    I want a couple of tag lines: The James Cameron catalogue of films (following the traditions of the first films' long trailer) Also the line: "The sequel to the highest grossing film of all time!" Trailer length would be 3 Min + or something close to that.

    Well, at least this won't be a repeat of the Teaser situation, where the trailer gets released "exclusively" in theatres with Black Panther, leaks all over the internet in bad quality and only to be put on social media days later. This is much better.

    I don't think these people are even aware that ATP is more than 20% higher than 2018, and when predicting box office they don't really factor what a reasonable admission number * current ATP would yield; similarly because of this, they'd underpredict Avatar TWOW as well. Though I do think a 45% reduction in admission for BPWF isn't completely unimaginable.

    OK, I liked the way he phrased that answer here a little more than before, but still it gives me anxiety with the uncertainty here.

    Part of the reason why I think a domestic gross lower than the original first run is quite unlikely.

    I know the lines you're referring too, I had the same feeling when watching it. Though I can't help but wonder if these scenes/dialogues will play out exactly the same way in TWOW, or are there going to be alternative versions in the movie. Maybe some of these are extras just for showcasing the vision. From what we've seen so far though, it looks like Lo'ak (Jake/Neytiri's second eldest) is going to be quite the character and potentially troublemaker? Can't wait to see his character arc.

    It seems to me that there's three variation of clips; the Whale is what I got as well (which I really enjoyed), and is probably the most common one, the kids swimming one being also quite common; then there is another clip floating around twitter featuring mainly Tonowari and Lo'ak which has some interesting dynamics, I think that is the third variation but it's quite rare.

    I feel the same tbh, even with the relatively small theatre count, I was thinking 12M+ opening domestically. But this is still good, and we've got some encouraging international numbers as well, still miles ahead of other recent re-releases.

    That's a new market that A2 is going to enjoy, but I bet most in Saudi Arabia has seen it one way or another. Maybe first theatrical experience, but still of an old movie.

    "From James Cameron, The director of Terminator, Aliens, T2, True Lies, Titanic" still gives me chills.
