So what if Retribution dropped 40% in Portugal? Spain's a way bigger market. Just because it decreased in Portugal, doesn't mean it won't do well in Spain. Taken made $5,464,669 in Spain, whereas Afterlife made $7,800,947. Plus, the bad reviews of Taken 2 and the fact it doesn't look as good as the original may add to it not opening to #1.
It should have really been released in 2D as well, as lots of people don't care about 3D anymore. Hopefully, Sony/Screen Gems will take this into account for the final film, and hopefully spend a bit more on the promotion.
From Screen Daily:'Resident Evil: Retribution has amassed $145.7m overall, of which $134.8m comes from Sony markets'.So, the total is now $185.5 million. Obviously it will make less than Afterlife, but it should make between $225-230 million and if it gets released in China, it could make about $250-260 million, which is great for a fifth movie!
Well, actually RE wasn't rubbish. I'm a fan of all of them, and Retribution is a lot better than the last one, which was also released in only 3D and IMAX 3D as well. It's a great action film, I don't get why people are saying it's rubbish. The last one was #1 and grossed £1.7 million in it's opening week, that's why i'm surprised it hasn't done as well.
It's mainly because there has been hardly any promotion here. They kept on showing the weakest TV spot out of the 8 or 9 they made. There were way better ones but they showed the weakest. It also didn't help that there were no reviews over here, so people wouldn't have really known that the film was out. It's strange because the Emma Watson film has been advertised for ages, but is performing even lower than I expected.
I wonder why the movie hasn't done as well in South Korea? I mean, the last one was the biggest film there in 2010, so I don't get it. Thanks for letting me know the gross Olive.
Olive, do you know how much Resident Evil has grossed so far in South Korea? I'm really surprised that it hasn't made anything like the last one when every other country in Asia opened higher than the last.
Ok thanks, I know that the estimate up to Sunday was supposed to be $38 million, but Screen Daily yesterday said that the gross up to Sunday was $35.8 million, which doesn't seem right.
