  1. Right. The silly comment is saying that TG2 is performing so crazy that it will make a $57m prediction for the weekend look silly, it wasn't disrespect as Shawn. All of our predictions are made to look silly at some point. That is just the nature of the box office.
  2. If you read these threads, you know I have made predictions days ago on this. It's exploding and won't be shocked to see $75m+ I wasn't being disrespectful, I was saying that you can go ahead and update the $57m number now as it won't be close and all the data shows that.
  3. Not to a large segment, and Keaton in the Flash footage got by far the biggest reaction from the crowd at CinemaCon.
  4. Can't report very accurate yet, but at this point looking either down slightly, flat or up slightly. Range of $14.1m worst case and $15.1m best case. Should land right in that area.
  5. I talked about before the release the conditions were set for an insane (but very unlikely) $200m opening 4 day weekend. While it of course didn't get that high, the conditions are still set for an insane 2nd weekend. I don't think $100m is possible, but $90m? Still unlikely, but crazier shit has happened. This movie has just taken over the conversation.
  6. It's ridicuosly early, but already it is looking flat to slightly up.
  7. Let me help you. Myself and others said that TG2's weekend was more impressive. For whatever reason, you interpreted that to be some statistical value of bigger. Myself and others maintain that TG2's opening weekend is more impressive given all the factors.
  8. Mea culpa. False alarm. I was going off the wrong day. $15.6m Still a fucking great number. My bad everyone.
  9. First, the AWE opening was largely seen as a disappointment and the film sucked. Second, I think TG2 is far more impressive because it had a lot more to deal with as far as competition from streaming and other entertaiment, the tail end of a pandemic, and having no recent sequel or finale factor to boost it. TG2 just blew the doors off after 36 years since the last movie, opening on the same week as Stranger Things and Obi Wan, had to draw out old people from their covid slumber and was a kick ass movie. It's far, far more impressive given all the factors.
  10. I still think Black Phone can break out a lot higher than that.
  11. It does. There are a number of dine in options. Alamo Drafhouse, Studio Movie Grill, iPic, Cineopolis, Moviehouse, Flix Brewhouse, Star Cinema Grill, etc....
  12. If the other parts of the movie are as good as the first 20 minutes that I saw, this is going to do great. It also has zero competition.
  13. Same thing when Gone With the Wind gets brought up. Sure, it sold a kajillion more tickets than anything today does, but most of the country only had air conditioning if they went to the movies. There was no television. No cell phones. No real commercial air travel. Roads were barely passable in much of the country. Little to no competiion from sporting events. No internet. No porn. No video games. Go back to 1936 and give everyone air conditioning, give them a smart phone, give them social media and Sirius radio and YouTubeTV and Disney+ and Netflix and a hundred sporting contests on HDTV and a next gen video game console and good roads and quick air travel and see how many people show up to Gone With the Wind over and over.
  14. Brandon - great to see you on here and I go back a long way with guys like you and Ray and others. I hear you on all of the above and even agree, but at the end of the day the reality is there are only a handfull of people that actually care and even less that think it matters. The numbers are there for headlines and headlines only. It isn't fair, but it is what it is. The only thing I would make a point on is that no matter what there is never a true apples to apples comparison. As much as we can say that At World's End was bigger or more popular because it had a much higher attendance out of the gate than Maverick did, you also then have to say that Maverick had to deal with a completely different set of competition. There was pretty much nothing going on entertainment wise back when that POTC came out. Streaming didn't even exist at that point. Maverick had to contend with the release of Stranger Things and Obi-Wan Kenobi on its opening day. It had to compete with like half a billion combined streaming subscribers and a dozen high quality platforms. This in addition to all the traditional entertainment like sports, water recreation, etc.... I think it is actually far more impressive what Top Gun: Maverick pulled off despite having less people see it.
  15. Cool, I thought so. We have always had a good joking back and forth and I think maybe the other guy (JamesCameronScholar?) didn't realize that. All good my blue friend!
  16. In my defense, I just gave an honest assesment of what I think might happen. Didn't call anyone out or poke or anything. I thought IronJimbo and I were having a joking back and forth, but sheesh I guess the Avatar fans take anything as serious business. I will always speak to the box office, but won't even joke with them anymore.
  17. Never forget, the BOT crew of Charlie, RTH and myself pretty much nail the number about 18 hours before the trades. Make sure you buy your Gold memberships, this is the best box office website by far.
