  2. now is daytime across the usa/canada, and BOT is so quite now which means a good thing, all moviegoers are in Dunkirk's IMAX showing! nice!! speaking of IMAX, one thing i find disappointed by dunkirk was its part of strategy, through it's biggest release of 70mm in 25 years, but still just 131 theaters are available for that(100 regular+31 IMAX). WB seems a bit reluctant for pushing that format, 131 is just too insignificant to bring any impactful effect, I wish WB could push harder for 70mm initially so that Dunkirk could ride on that wave just like what avatar rode on 3D/IMAX. If a movie could popularise 70mm format, that is Dunkirk, and I think WB just missed that chance. WB pushed harder on 48fps hfr for hobbit1 and it proved to be a underwhelmed outcome. I wonder is it why studio and theater are worried about "new" format.....
  3. Nolan drawing power of IMAX version is significantly higher, TDKR: 15%, interstellar: 28% and now dunkirk 24%. they should name him as Father of IMAX
  4. http://deadline.com/2017/07/dunkirk-international-box-office-grosses-1202132130/ ‘Dunkirk’ Logs Strong, 3-Day Cume Of $21.2M After Key Market Rollout – Int’l Box Office for those who has concern over its OS run
  5. humourless + serious may be the reason for lacklustre box office performance but humourless + serious don't = bad movie. Humour is not the essential for a good drama, but conflict, and apes rich of that. It's great movie, with disappointing number, well understood why is it so, it's just not for the typical audience taste/mood.... Coming from a general audience of the previous two, the seriousness and darkness of the franchise is why I'm fallen love into the franchise, it's brave to enough to be itself without too compromising the audience's taste. It failed but it is an epic failure and earned critics respect.
  6. Dunkirk, initial estimate: $22m, actual estimate $20m - disappointment Apes, initial estimate: $5.5m, actual estimate $5.9m - decent hold This is my reaction and i dont know why.... What law can describe this??
  7. they may share same traits in term of idea (paprika), but it's far from rip off as they have different direction in storyline, not to mention inception is live-action while paprika being animation. Inception A Memento A+ The Dark Knight A+ The Prestige A- Batman Begins A- Interstellar B+ Insomnia never saw Following never saw The Dark Knight Rises B- personally I think that nolan's film generally being too clever and lack of emotional element, interstellar was an 2nd attempt after memento, try to engage me with emotional moment, while it worked, but interstellar became the 1st time that i found his film being pretentious.....and confusing, and lack of internal-consistency. Nolan fans like to claim that nolan film was too clever for some dumb to understand, but I think the attempt of trying to make sure your audience get what you want to deliver, it's part of the director task. Still, nolan film to me is the live-action of pixar at individual level!
  8. http://deadline.com/2017/07/dunkirk-valerian-girls-trip-weekend-box-office-opening-1202132847/ Saturday am update: ‘Dunkirk’ Flying To $51M+; ‘Girls Trip’ Driving To $29M+; ‘Valerian’ Still A Disaster With $16M+
  9. I think we should really consider that dunkirk could pass inception's OW then in term of OW, it would be dunkirk> inception> interstellar their RT rating are 8.6> 8.1> 7 respectively, Nolan will show how tomato Law work.....
  10. I suffered the same confusion when I first joining the new system, It happened to me too....when I checked back my reaction on the others post, it all gone
  11. I think dunkirk is pretty lock for that spot, but GO seems a bit "unstable" , and I hope Apes could surprise here. Oscar final contenders normally are low profile, anti-crowd pleaser type of drama, so i don't expect to hear any of them during summer
