  1. people are screaming when SMH are dropping harsh 60% in domestic thread, perhaps this thread, they could find that how good was the SMH's WOM 45% drop is phenomenal, no way to deny it, it's outperform than in USA given the market context.
  2. http://www.cnbc.com/2017/07/16/superheroes-are-almost-single-handedly-saving-the-us-box-office.html Superheroes are almost single-handedly saving the US box office The theme song for this year's box office is shaping up to be "Holding Out for a Hero." Superhero movies have been just about the only safe bet in 2017, providing a reliable box office boost during a hit-or-miss year. Hollywood has hauled in about $6 billion at the U.S. box office through July 9, roughly even with the total at this point last year, according to comScore. That's thanks to strong early releases like comic book movies "Logan" and "The LEGO Batman Movie," as well as the live action "Beauty and the Beast," low-budget horror breakout "Get Out" and "The Fate of the Furious." But things have taken a turn for the worse since the start of the summer movie season, and it's only superhero flicks — "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2," "Wonder Woman" and "Spider-Man: Homecoming" — that have been sure bets. Pathetic, not because of CBM are doing great, but because of the market diversity is at the expenses of that greatness
  3. this weekend is a disappointment to me, I'd never expect SMH could be so fragile(despite quite good response from audience) to Apes and drop 60%. A shocker to me even more, given that harsh drop from SMH, Apes figure wasn't great neither even with critically acclaimed review. Here is another thing, there are not any surprise or new-comers that come in above tracking, indicating that the whole market is shrinking! Audience just need to have some attention lesson, they are always mindless, they can produced a huge $150m opener but not enough attention to accommodate two $50m grosser.
  4. BoxOfficeReport.com‏ @BORReport Wonder Woman grossed an estimated $6.89M this weekend. 45-Day total stands at $380.69M. #WonderWoman #BoxOffice
  5. BoxOfficeReport.com‏ @BORReport War for the Planet of the Apes debuted with an estimated $56.5M this weekend. #WarForThePlanet #BoxOffice
  6. japan could be a wild card, as they adore female-centric film, their top3 highest grossing film of time are all female-centric film: Spirited away, Titanic and Frozen! This could be the good sign! $20m could be in play which make WW totalled to nearly $420m! *But the hunger game didn't performed there, but it was from a relatively inexperience studio of Lionsgate
  7. I knew that german doesn't like SH movies, but to the extent of fall behind the holdover of DM3 during its opening.....it's bombed right? Could it be considered as a flop in german here?? how is the standard of Flop in german?
  8. please tell me that TF5 is the the victim!!!
  9. I don't think they come in short period of time, the lord of the ring, hUnger game, HP , were all just 1 years + apart, I dont think 3 years apart between each entry for Apes is considered short, in opposite of that, I think 3 years apart from last entry could be too long for nowadays, there were so many option of franchise now in marketplace, making people easily forget things despite having good will, Many people likes Dawn but they are just simply forget them. It's like," I know apes movie are awesome, but who cares?' To be honest, apes franchise doesn't being impactful in pop-culture like CBM movie,SW, LOTR or HP, which could keep audience interested or hard-core fans be enthusiastic; Why are they making sequel? It's mean for trilogy! They want to make money out of their would-be great sequel, and Dawn proved that, War again proved that vision. To me, apes is the greatest trilogy since LOTR. The difference would be they are largely ignored, commercially or Oscarly. My understanding would be audience just don't want a dark/serious drama, their view on movie-experience were solely meant for making fun out of it. We're in the era where a movie will only impressed us when it left us laughing instead of making our brain be spinning. I hate to use word of "overrated" or "underrated", but I must say, War Apes is underappreciated......
  10. Andy Serkis would like to word with Apes production team and FOX studio: General audience has deserted us, Tomato Law has betrayed me!
  11. may need to put this just in front box office counter of SMH and Apes, Now every single cent is going to affect how people comment and perceive here in BOT
  12. It may indicate that SMH and Apes have larger overlapping in term of target audience than expected, don't forget, the generation that embrace the original SM trilogy have grow older and they are the target audience here for Apes too... But this reasoning is weak as SMH and Apes have almost different style as former are much more fast-paced+ humour while latter was a serious action drama, it should be have enough space for both story-telling style. The so-so number from Apes and harder than expected drop from SMH were just disappointing, I just wish to see both grosser to break $50m benchmark. If the market could cater a single $150m mega opener , why can't they accommodate two different well-made film?
  13. Come on people, 60% of 2nd weekend drop is a very common scenario now despite having great RT score, it's a 3rd launch of the franchise after all, it has gotten what it deserved, $117m opening and around $300m total, can't complain...... I'm more worried about Apes! It's freaking good movie!! It looks generally the same as dawn, as it embrace a more deeper and thought-provoking discuss than the 2nd, action sequence may slow and isn't we get it enough fast pacing sequences from other film?? If people can accept the similarity between SW7 and ANH, I can't see why they can't accept the much more subtle repetition in between dawn and war
  14. why are DHL and BOM are comparing Kong and Apes? Didn't they know that Kong was a March release? Expect a similar jump from Kong for Sat was so unrealistic although I hope it turn out to be true....
  15. So , Apes's true friday wasn't too far from TF5 friday(not its opening day), $17m vs $13.7m. TF5 wasn't that bad like what critic said after all.....underrated masterpiece.....
  16. http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/box-office-war-planet-apes-beating-spider-man-homecoming-1021303 Elsewhere, supernatural horror film 'Wish Upon' isn't scaring up much business, while 'The Big Sick' expands nationwide after an impressive limited run at the specialty box office. Director Matt Reeves' War for the Planet of the Apes is stomping past holdover Spider-Man: Homecoming at the North American box office, topping Friday's chart with an estimated $22 million from 4,022 theaters for a projected $55 million-plus debut. Heading into the weekend, it was unclear whether the final installment in 20th Century Fox's refurbished trilogy would be able to beat Sony's Spider-Man, which swung to a stellar $117 million last weekend. Apes will come in behind the 2014 sequel Dawn of the Planet of the Apes ($72.6 million), but on part with or slightly ahead of the 2011 film, Rise of the Planet of the Apes ($54.8 million). Friday's haul included $5 million in Thursday-night previews. Spider-Man: Homecoming grossed around $13.7 million Friday from 4,348 cinemas for a sophomore outing of $47 million-$48 million. That would mean a decline of 60 percent or 59 percent, a bigger drop than the summer's two other superhero sensations, Wonder Woman, which fell a scant 43 percent, and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 (56 percent), but certainly in keeping with many other comic book adaptations. Sony's Spider-Man reboot will finish the weekend with a tidy domestic total of roughly $210 million. War for the Planet of the Apes has roared to a stellar 94 percent certified fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes, ahead of Spider-Man: Homecoming (93 percent), Wonder Woman (92 percent) and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 (81 percent). And it earned an A- CinemaScore from audiences. The latest Planet of the Apes installment, costing $150 million to produce before marketing, follows Caesar (Andy Serkis) as he and the other apes try to survive the ongoing war with mankind and the wrath of a ruthless human dictator (Woody Harrelson). Chernin Entertainment produced. Elsewhere, new entry Wish Upon is having trouble scaring up much business for Broad Green Pictures and Orion. The supernatural horror pic earned an estimated $2.3 million Friday from 2,250 theaters for a projected $5.5 million-$6 million debut, putting it at No. 7. Starring Joey King, Ryan Phillippe and Elisabeth Rohm, the film around a young girl who's given a music box by her father that grants her every wish, with terrifying consequences. Wish Upon received a C CinemaScore. There's major action at the specialty box office as director Michael Showalter's critical darling The Big Sick, from Amazon Studios and Lionsgate, expands nationwide into 2,597 theaters after a glowing limited run. The romantic comedy grossed an estimated $2.5 million Friday for $7 million-$8 million weekend. From a script by Kumail Nanjiani and his now-wife, Emily Gordon, The Big Sick draws from their real-life courtship and revolves around a young Pakistani comedian (Nanjiani) and his American girlfriend (Zoe Kazan) who must contend with their cultural differences and two very different sets of parents. Judd Apatow produced. The Big Sick looks to come in No. 5 behind War for the Planet of the Apes, Spider-Man, Despicable Me 3 and Edgar Wright's heist thriller Baby Driver. Universal and Illumination's Despicable Me 3 , playing in 4,155 theaters, is anticipating a $19.4 million weekend for a domestic total of $188.4 million. Baby Driver, Sony's second big win of the summer, is projected to gross another $8.7 million for a North American cume of $73 million. Wonder Woman — now in its seventh weekend — will finally fall out of the top five to No. 6 with an estimated $6.5 million weekend for a dazzling domestic total of around $380 million. The Warner Bros. release is enjoying an unheard of hold and is now assured of topping out at $395 million or more.
  17. Is there any possibility that apes increase from $22m friday??? it would need at least 32% for that, almost unheard in summer, but could it be??
  18. I think it could , bad counter-programming play here, dunkirk and apes both skewed older male, making them cancel out their each other hype and buzz....
  19. So, lesson to Fox's marketing, Wrong assumption, their assumption of the good will from Dawn could lasted fresh for 3 years and make people eagerly wanting to see them again, proved wrong, good will from Dawn has diminished into ash after so many blockbuster franchise come into marketplace in just 3 years...... Being too dependent on RT score, after riding of the success of logan/deadpool Last, so many RT-certified highly recommended movie(90%+) come into marketplace in July, BD, BS, SMH, and supposed masterpiece of Dunkirk.....making high RT score for Apes be unattractive.....
  20. I suddenly lose my faith in audience's quality after somewhat disappointing domestic number, add in the much more unfavourable exchange rate, I hope it could still pass 400m OS, with china's gross would maintain at about $100m
  21. Apparently that the name for Apes was too long for GA audience to remember and pay attention, hardly any of my friend could remember the name of movie when they said about the movie, I only learned that in some of their eyes, planet of apes was interchangeable with The Jungle book......
  22. Meh-performing of apes could be a good thing, at least fox likely won't have another apes 4 to destroy this perfect trilogy ending......
