  5. Your Name. had its last available total updated today, just two days before the film is released on DVD/Blu-Ray, to over ¥25 billion after 48 weeks in theatrical release. The film is still playing at a few locations, three after this upcoming Friday, but it's unlikely to go any higher given the home video release, so I'd take this updated total to be its final total unless otherwise reported at a later date. Makoto Shinkai's phenomenon became the fourth film in history to ever reach the incredible milestone of ¥25 billion. (Tokyo Theaters) WK4 >Despicable Me 3 delivered a clear first place debut, and set a new studio opening weekend record for Illumination, coming in 9% higher than 2015's Minions. The third entry in the ever popular Despicable Me franchise sold a very impressive 478,348 admissions over the weekend frame across 376 screens, and 605,748 admissions since opening on Friday. There's a good chance it'll exceed the ¥5 billion ($45 million) blockbuster milestone, especially given this time of year, which would make it only the third non-Disney/Pixar imported animated film to ever reach the mark (after Illumination's own Minions and Sing). Illumination continues its surprising, and impressive, winning streak in the market, and dare I say it, have become just as successful as Walt Disney Animation and Pixar in Japan in recent years. >Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales fell to second place in its fourth weekend of release, selling 224,054 admissions. After four weeks in release, the fourth entry in the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise has exceeded 3.2 million admissions. The film should continue to post solid numbers throughout the remainder of summer, and is aiming for a total around ¥7 billion ($60 million+). >Gintama comes in third place in its sophomore frame, but achieved a respectable second weekend coming off a holiday opening frame. Warner Bros. live-action adaptation of the popular manga/anime sold 238,995 admissions in its second weekend, and has exceeded 1.2 million admissions after just two weeks in release. The film is set to be another hit for WB, and is on track for a total around ¥4 billion ($35 million+). >Pokemon: I Choose You! experienced the typical ~50% decline that the franchise almost always has in its second weekend, coming in fourth place in its second weekend with 212,248 admissions. After two weeks in release, the 20th film in the Pokemon franchise has already exceeded 1 million admissions -- this is over 60% higher than last year's film after two weeks, and ahead of every Pokemon film of the past five years. It's on track for a total around ¥3.5 billion ($30 million). >Cars 3 suffers the worst second weekend decline of any Pixar release, and barely remained in the Top 5 in its second weekend. I'm not expecting it to recover too much, though it'll still receive a nice summer/Obon Festival boost, so it's likely going to finish just north of ¥2 billion (~$20 million). Very disappointing result. >Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha Reflection oddly doesn't have an actual released yet, so its figure above is an estimate based on its estimated weekend admissions. If/When a number comes in, I'll update this post.
  7. But both have similar trait as both are military themed, could it be some sort of cannibalisation?
  8. based on maoyan daily figure, and my calculation manually, the total box office haul as of 24/7 stand at ¥3.25b Yuan, I see it could fall behind of 2016's July figure, could it really drop from last year's july?
  9. Never watch gravity in IMAX 3D is one of my greatest regret, i wouldn't get that chance anymore!! This is why I am so happy when seeing Nolan bashing about Netflix, cinematic experience is irreplaceable, size matters!!!! All of us, as BOT members should defend big screen experience, if streaming services won, BOT could possibly cease the operations!!!
  10. If RT audience score could give 69% to an all-time masterpiece like Titanic, I don't see why they won't do that to Dunkirk. This is why I rarely refer myself to audience score, they are just too "playful" because they risk nothing at giving out the score like critics risks their credibility or their position in public.
  11. Interstellar added $15.7 million over the three-day weekend, which was actually up three percent from the previous week. IMAX accounted for $5.7 million, or 36 percent. So far, the Christopher Nolan sci-fi epic has grossed $147 million, and remains on track for over $170 million total The most impressive part of interstellar in its box office run was its IMAX share, I don't expect any kind of wide-conventional release could get 36% of IMAX share, even DUnkirk
  12. I find dunkirk is more suitable to be released on November than interstellar. The release of Dunkirk could coincidence with Veteran Day and greater review could give it some oscar bump....
  13. WAR FOR THE PLANET OF THE APES Led by decent holds in the U.K., Russia, Spain and Hong Kong, the latest in the 20th Century Fox franchise from director Matt Reeves and star Andy Serkis grossed another $17.2M this weekend to bring its international cume up to $77.1M. Globally, War for the Planet of the Apes has taken in roughly $174.9M to date. The territory leading the charge in the movie’s sophomore frame is the U.K., which was No. 3 in the market behind opener Dunkirk and holdover Despicable Me 3. It picked up $3.37M from its 1,150 screens to bring the UK total to $16.1M. In Russia, Apes ranked No. 2, adding another $1.88M to bring the market cume to $8.8M. It’s on 1,318 screens there. In Spain, the franchise film was down only 40% and was No. 2 in the market behind Dunkirk. Adding another $1.3M from 618 screens, the market total is $6.2M. Next weekend will see the Apes swinging into five new markets including Australia and Mexico.
  14. terrible number, what happened to this provincial world? at least fox won't make another apes movie for the time being and leave this perfect trilogy ending alone.....
  15. Just who the hell are watching the WW?? A CBM movie like SMH didn't take away its audience, kid-friendly DM3 didn't, adult-male driven Apes neither, and now GT which heavily target woman, only to make WW drop 30% when WW suffered its harshest drop in theater count!
