  1. If, and this is a very big if, Feige wanted to change directions on the big bad of the next phase from Kang, this would be the time. It's a great out. Find a way to rework Loki, and quietly put Kang in a neat little box of "Maybe later we'll recast".

You'll have rumors to the contrary of course, but the bulk of PR can spin it as a reaction the Majors's actions.

This is of course IF the feedback on Kang is as terrible as some people in this thread think.

Otherwise, it'll be a recast. I'd put money they're probably already looking at how to do a Kevin Spacey with Loki.

Has the games ever explained where Wario comes from? I'd be curious to see how they would do that. Maybe have him come from some kind of bizarro universe or something.

Don't believe so. All I've ever seen from him is just a little chaos demon gremlin.

Waluigi has even less of a backstory.

I think Wario probably will end up being like Knuckles where he helps Bowser to escape for monetary gain only to be betrayed so teams up with the Mario Bros to get his money.

Wario is more anti hero than villain and a lot of the fun of the Land series is that he ends up saving the day unintentionally.

See, I'd love to see the reverse, where bowser turns on Wario. Kind of like any Mario RPG where Bowser isn't the main baddy, he'll side with Mario to stop that baddy.

This is definitely giving someone who has embraced victimhood and the overall demeanor of a schoolyard bully as much as too many other people in the same party (see: Kari Lake and her unsubstantiated claims of election fraud over her Arizona loss and unsuccessful attempts at overturning the results) too much credit lol. Gotta stay in the news somehow when you're that desperate for power and attention, I guess.

Meanwhile, as all this has been going on, Fort Lauderdale got hit by a nasty rainstorm last week that caused mass flooding and lots of property damage. What was he doing while this was happening? He was campaigning for his presidential aspirations in another state. We're supposed to believe that the real problems are Disney, drag queens, and children learning about black history in schools (to name just a few of his many ill-advised targets), but people losing their homes in the state he is fuckin' governor is not? As @4815162342 said, the attack ads from his opponents from all over literally write themselves.

The fact the only government talking about fuel shortages and what's going on is Broward County, and DeSantis has decided his feud with Disney is more important.

But that's a Dem area, so doubt he cares enough.

Disney clearly lost the first round of this and the second round is actively ongoing. I just don't see how you can confidently say Disney's already won their decision to embarrass DeSantis over his group's inattention to detail.  If DeSantis thought he had his ass handed to him, he wouldn't have doubled down right now.

This is the fundamental disagreement. DeSantis 100% doubles down when he's losing. Every step of this has been DeSantis doubling down because Disney did something to hurt him.

First hes playing to the national crowd but secondly Florida is changing, people are literally migrating for political reasons.

In both cases he wants to be seen having a fight and winning. Personally I think hes going to get bogged down in a state issue whilst trying to run a national campaign but I can see why hes trying it.

Killing Florida's economy isn't going to win him votes nationally. At no point has he been seen to be winning outside a hard-core base that'll break for Trump over him 100% of the time.

He's an idiot that'll destroy his state's economy and his political career to hurt Disney.

I think the characters who have their own franchises within the Mario series probably have the best chance of film adaptations. With Wario for example you could introduce him in a SMBM sequel and then have a spin off film two years later

Sure do a Wario as your villain who frees Bowser.

I'm down for that. Heck if they go where he is literally made of the bad of Mario I'd be there.

Fix what? How can Marvel fix Secret Wars? Cause ultimately there's nothing Marvel can do to change the fact that they got rid of the A tier characters and they are trying to make 2 Avengers movies centered around B/C tier characters that not many care about.

The fact this was said with a straight face as a fault in Marvel's plans is really telling.

  8. This is exactly the movie your expecting. It does what it wants to do very competently. Solid jokes. Pacing is good. Acting goes from good to great. The animation is beautiful.

This is just another entry in why Illumination is successful. They know their audience and know how to cater to it. As someone who loves Mario games, I did get a kick out of all the small references and even the bringing of the platforming to their world.

Also the Integration of iconic mario music into the film was very satisfying to me.

    It's a good time.

My only complaint is perhaps the ending bits in Brooklyn.

    B+

I'll again flag morning consult actually did the sensible thing and just...polled people on this subject and published the results.

    https://assets.morningconsult.com/wp-uploads/2022/04/13134209/2204053_crosstabs_MC_ENTERTAINMENT_HARRY_POTTERJK_ROWLING_Adults_v1_SH.pdf

Just ask people if they have boycotted or are considering boycotting it along with opinions on Rowling/controversy.

My take away from that survey is that it seems 50% of people don't want more Harry Potter, regardless of their opinions of Rowling.

The notion that they wouldn't have agreed to appear in a Cursed Child adaptation has no factual basis. If they were so against Rowling, why did they agree to participate in the celebration of her book's adaptation?

The Cursed Child didn't happen because Rowling didn't want it (as she has stated multiple times, and it's been hinted by other WB insiders).

Radcliffe's choice in film roles post Potter is pretty much solid evidence to me he isn't the type to just do a role for cash.

I mean, fair.  But I think it'll probably be more Broad Strokes than anything else.

On the other hand, what suspect and where my trepidations lie is that we might gets some Really Weird Star Wars that the GA is just not ready for.

Before I go any further, this is a really Crack Theory, even for me.  But I keep thinking about that hallway scene we saw in the trailer.  What if it isn't just an homage to Rogue One/The Rescue?  What if it's tied to some sort of weirdness with The World Between Worlds?  I haven't done a side-by-side compare/contrast yet, but I wonder if this isn't just a homage to that scene, but a one-for-one reshot of it.  Or near enough as to be more than just a callback.

What if that was the iconic scene from Rogue One ***after*** someone has mucked with the World Between Worlds?!?

I don't even think it's so much that Filoni doesn't have the guts to do that as I think he respects his fellow storytellers too much to come close to going down that road.  On the other hand, what if part of Ahsoka is a cautionary tale of What Happens When One Does Muck With The Timestream?

That definitely would be Different From Heir To Empire, that's for sure.  It also has the potential to rip apart fandom like little else.  Which is why I probably put the odds of this at much less than one percent.  Maybe 500:1 odds against?  1000:1 odds against.  But it ain't zero.

So it's not even trepidation as wondering not only why re-do that hallway scene for a third time, but why put it in the trailer?  Filoni usually has thematic reasons for what he does, after all.  Hell, even Luke's hallway scene at the end of S2 of Mando was fairly intentional thematically.  So why is it here and why is it in the trailer?

That I don't know.  And it really is the only thing I am, I won't even say "worried", as that's far too strong a word, but more... thinking about.

Honestly I like that, but that tickles my fancy in general.

Just if I see clones of Kanan, Ezra, or Ahsoka, I may just quit.

DeSantis will be fine in the GOP primaries. He will come off the as the drama-free adult in the room in a 1 on 1 with modern Trump just as Biden did. Really hoping were get to see Chris Christie on a debate stage with trump. No clue how Ron would fare in a general election but no way he is as bad as Trump would be. 😂

Shocking twist: Biden opts out and Bob Iger runs for President and squares off against Ron! 🤯

Problem is, Ron seems like an Adult compared to Trump. Add a third person, and he looks like a toddler thanks to his tantrums in Florida.

That's not how things work in Hollywood, just look at Transformers and what happened to Bumblebee despite being well reviewed. It is common for sequels to pay for the sins of their predecessors, and I think there's a high chance Indy 5 will pay for the sins of Indy 4 no matter how much better the movie is. Anyone who had watched Indy 4 would came to the conclusion that we didn't need that movie so it's going to be even harder to be excited about a sequel with no Spielberg involved and with an even older Ford.

I think the big difference is that Transformers NEVER had the height of a Raiders or Last Crusade to bouy any good will. All you need is WOM to compare Indy 5 to those two and it'll do fine.

The budget of the D&D was 150 million. However, if I'm not mistaken, this budget doesn't include the marketing.

So, we don't know exactly how much the studio spend in this movie, but it's a good amount more than 150 million.

If I recall, Hasbro footed part of the bill too. So capping where this movie profits for the studio may be hard.

It's all about relative versus absolute.

If GOTG3 comes in under AM3 on its OW there's almost no way to finesse it as not a bad thing.  Hell, barely doing more than AM3 (say, 115m to 125m OW) isn't much better.  About the only thing one might be able to point to is if it does better on internal holds during the weekend.

And in any case, ultimately, it's not us who decide whether or not the "MCU (is) IN TROUBLE", but Disney.  And given their actions the last four to six weeks, I don't particularly think they think everything is hunky dory and Nothing To See Here.

Now this doesn't mean that Marvel is dying1!q!11, as it isn't. But it absolutely positively no bones about it isn't in the same place it was this time last year.  In the end, that's what people are really commenting on here.

It also doesn't mean it can't recover and people just look back at this period as a weird blip [word chosen semi-intentionally].  But it'll take strong reaction to GOTG3, Secret Invasion, Loki S2 AND The Marvels. If Marvel fandom/the GA reacts to the reset of the MCU slate this year better than they did the more recent MCU fare, then the box office will eventually follow.

However, if we get more "3.6 Roetgen not great not terrible" type reactions from various audience measurement tools (scientific or otherwise)?  Well gonna see a lot more of the "MCU IN TROUBLE" posts in the coming months.

    (taken from the Tracking thread)

For better or worse, I think the Disney+ shows have caused a problem for the Movies. And perhaps having the shows and movies tie in so much could cause serious problems.

It's one thing to ask an audience to watch 3 movies a year, another to ask them to watch a half dozen shows on streaming that conclude or start character arcs from the a film.
