The stuff we've seen so far doesn't suggest a good story. Ghost in The Shell was never about revenge. If anything it was more a procedural cop drama with philosophical undertones.
I don't agree with the "doesn't suggest a good story "just because it's not 100% of the source material doesn't mean the story isn't gonna be good.
Too be honest that's Fanboy logic, just saying.
It's not about revenge it's about her finding out who she truly is.Thats something I don't think they ever touched on in the anime(not too familiar with all the episodes but have watched plenty of them plus all the movies).
You can't judge a book by its cover.

More to GiTS then action imo. If you don't get the philosophical undertones and themes of GiTS right then there's really no point to the franchise.
I know that infacr for it's kind of story the Action has to be unique and i must say so far they seem to have nailed that part.
I can't judge the story when I haven't seen the movie yet so as a movie goer I have to be optimistic.
The comment you said basically says "If it isn't this way it won't be good"
How's about we just hope for good story with solid action.

Would be much more interested in Japan doing a live action Ghost In The Shell tbh
Watching VH1 tonight and those GITS clips are looking every promising.
I'm not gonna lie the action looks extremely good.

We just need actuals to come in.
Fingers crossed Kong stays above 60M, my box office OCD wouldn't like it if the actual number ended up at 59.8
I don't see that even making a difference.
It exceeded original projections(expectations) by grossing over 50mil.

BvS should have been made for $5M! Nothing more and nothing less!
I'm trying to figure out how are we still talking about BVS in a weekend thread a year later

Wow, this is crazy because Kong had weak presales
Or is it the presales sold inline with it's opening.

They tend to go hand in hand, no? I mean one major part of box office is determining if the film is profitable. Lone Ranger wouldn't have been a flop, for instance, if its budget was 140M less than what it was.
MORE like Long ranger wouldn't be considered a flop of it made more money.

Box office numbers are hard data. Budgets and profitability aren't.

I feel good about Logan going into the second weekend vs Kong.
While it's third weekend will be BatB and some significant drops are usually seen at this point for majority of films I think BatB is going to hit even harder.
Hopefully not hard enough to kill off a $200m+ finish.
I'm in line for Kong for an advance screening right now.
I'll let you know if it will have buzz or not.

It's an OK drop. Don't want to read too much into legs from this # but it indicates this will likely have standard X-Men legs.
That will give it about an 2.3-2.4 either one tge flim will make over 200 domestic .
That's pretty good for my Club.

LOGAN'S MONDAY 7.15 MEDIOCRE 70% FALL
I guess my 215 dom prediction will be close.

China will properbly only have a 2 multiplier so DOM and the rest of the world needs to do 3+
ONLY time will tell,by this time next Sunday we will have a better understanding as to where the flim is gonna finish.

Logan has made 85 million dollars so far. And with it's great word of mouth, it could make close to 300 million dollars domestically, but it has some stiff competition this month.
Sent from my iPhone using TapatalkNo chance at 300 domestic.
250 is the ceiling while I believe 225 could definitely be in play which is s 2.65x.

Why would Wonder Woman do so much better than Dr. Strange or Logan?
I'm going to say 70/165 m for now.

Honestly, something like a 2.3-2.4x would be a good X-multi. I'm not really expecting more than that... at least not until we see some dailies.
That would have it missing 200 domestic.
I don't see this missing 200 dom.

I can see an $85M OW after a $33M Friday and maybe a 3x multiple given WOM (and maybe my slight bias since Logan is tied for my favorite CBM). However I don't see Kong doing $150M+ anymore, it has little to no hype.
In order for it to get an 3x it would need to help of families.

XMEN movies are always crazy frontloaded. It remains to be seen whether LOGAN will break from the pattern or not.
I think Logan will break the trend but it's gonna be extremely hard for the flim to reach 240mil (3x).
I reall think my 210 (2.67x) is also high but totally doable.

Since Logan is looking to finish with $200M-$240M, I wonder how the other CBMs will finish domestic.
240 mil would be a 3x off a 79mil o.w
I don't think Logan will gross that high with Kong coming out Friday..
Maybe 210mil which is a 2.67x..
