  1. Let's be honest, loud and clear : Aquaman 2 is still a flop.

I loved it, but it'll still lose money. The only difference is that the movie is putting up a better fight than most of the previous cbm movies that really flopped badly.

So, it's like getting shot 10 times instead of 30 times. This movie is like the fighter that everyone was expecting to lose in the first round, only to survive until round 10 and then lose.

So yeah, the performance has been much better than expected and it might make twice the numbers The Marvels did. It's still a failure, but it's less damaging than others. WB isn't sad about it, the studio barely promoted it. Thanks to James Wan's action scenes and direction and Momoa's charismatic persona, this movie is finding some audiences.

I had a ton of fun with it. So, I'm glad it's performing better than expected. I watched it twice!

  2. Times changed. New era. New game. New rules. Eons ago, audiences were more forgiving regarding ok / fine / mediocre / bad movies.

We had a pandemic, ticket prices are insanely high in a lot of places / countries, inflation is high, everything is expensive , audiences are less forgiving now. Movies can't be just ok/fine/cool/watchable anymore. Studios have to make movies that are gems, arts and justify people leaving their homes to watch them. At least, that's the message I'm getting.

Yeah, B- is modal outcome but C+ really shouldn't be treated as of the table. Remember, the fact you don't have a "% positive" to cite here is also minor evidence that it's currently below the others.

C+ is definitely not happening to Aquaman 2. Catwoman got a B and even Dark Phoenix got a B-

There's a consensus on Rotten Tomatoes:

Jason Momoa remains a capable and committed leading man, but even DC diehards may feel that Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom sticks to familiar waters.

Even though I enjoyed this movie, I agree with the ending part of the consensus. This movie played insanely safe in every department. It's very clear the crew was afraid of taking any kind of risk. However, it was still much better than what I thought it would be. It's better than a lot of movies I've watched lately. I'm actually surprised. James Wan really has talent and the crew really did what they could.

  5. I don't know if I went to see it with insanely low expectations, but I really enjoyed this movie. Really good and fun flick.

It moved fast and it wasn't long. The action scenes and visuals were great. This is miles, miles better than Flash, Shazam 2, Blue Beetle. Miles.

Definitely not a bad movie, imo. I was surprised about how safe it was. Movie played safe and never left that zone. Happy ending, only the villain dies. No, the baby doesn't die.

I mean, it's just a gag. If you stay past the credits and expect anything more for a universe that you know is dead, it's kind of on you.

Nah, I wasn't expecting anything from this already dead universe. However, I'm surprised ( in a negative way ), given the talent behind this movie.

Now I'm watching the movie, but then I'll be leaving as soon as it ends. That post credits scene is one of the worst I've ever seen.

  7. Directors have highs and lows. Yes, a movie can be bad because of its director. Studios also have their part regarding how bad movies can be, but it's beyond impossible exonerating a director and putting the blame on studios.

I mean, just look at Martin Brest. Guy went from Beverly Hillls Cop / Midnight Run / Scent of a Woman to freaking Gigli ( 2003 ) and then vanished! Why is Gigli so freaking bad? Is it because of evil studios that only want money or is the director part of the failure? Just come on, people.

Wan is a great director, but if Aquaman 2 is a bad movie, he definitely has a part in it.

  8. Wan said he wants back to horror. 2 days later, we got news about Saw 11. Timing is odd.

That being said, what's the problem with Aquaman 2? Is the movie Fant4stic levels of bad? The trailer seems to be more of the same that we got in the first Aquaman. Unless of course, baby is getting killed, which would be a big NO for a movie like this during Christmas. lol
