  1. Everything screams generic / lackluster , regarding this movie. The lack of energy / excitement is very obvious.

The clip released yesterday was laughable and not in a good way. I'm getting Quantumania vibes here, which is always a bad sign.

By the way, what's going on with Brie Larson? I'm being honest. I'm watching some interviews and videos on youtube and boy, she really needs a PR to tell her how to answer some questions. She's a great actress and a beautiful woman, but she doesn't know how to act in front of someone interviewing her.

I've just watched her answer about playing Captain Marvel, where she says "I don't know. Does anyone want me to do it again?". That was a very bad and petty answer, imo.

So, how did the whole "Brie Larson hate" start? I'm being honest. I keep hearing so many people saying men are afraid of strong female protagonists, but that's definitely false. There are lots of movies and even games featuring women as protagonists / main characters and they have been loved by male audiences.  Characters like Sarah Connor, Ripley, Lara Croft, Jill Valentine, Claire Redfield, Selene, Black Widow and so on have been loved by almost entire audiences. These are female characters that got full franchises around them, which means they were and they are loved.

I could tell tons of movies and games featuring women as protagonists and they didn't get a single insult towards them for having women as protagonists. Men definitely aren't afraid of women as protagonists. So, what's going on with Captain Marvel? Yes, I'm asking a serious question.

Is there charisma ( or lack of it ) involved? Is Brie way too much serious? Something not clicking with how her character is written? Her answers during interviews? Really curious on this one.

  2. So, does the movie ( aka The Marvels ) even have a director, writer? I mean, where are they? Better yet, where is Kevin Feige?

Why isn't the director talking about the movie? Why isn't the writer talking about it? Where's Kevin Feige to hype it? Do they even know their movie is getting released in basically 2 weeks? Where are the interviews with them? Where are the other producers?

Bad movie or not, at least they can and they should be talking about it. Yeah, there's a strike going on, but directors, writers and Feige aren't part of that strike. What the hell is going on?

  3. This movie is tracking low. If it's good, Disney needs to lift the embargo earlier, so they can boost people's confidence. Unless of course, the movie sucks and Disney has no faith in it, which is a very high possibility.

Fact is: This movie needs something, anything, whatever thing. It's amazing how the studio is doing nothing at all to promote this thing.

They could do the same thing they did with GOTG 3, by slowly building confidence through screenings for fans / critics long before the main release.

this movie is made for prestige. They know they aren't making any money off it. Hell that goes for a lot of Martin Scorcese movies and even other directors like Spielberg

Nah, it's not just that. Movies are made to get money. While flops happen time to time, studios need profit. Just look at what happened to A24. They lost a ton of money with Beau is Afraid ( third movie directed by Ari Aster ) and now are rushing to "mainstream" flicks. They need money just like everyone. It's cool to have movies "made for prestige", but money talks.

  5. A hard fact: Other than the dedicated MCU fanbase that watches everything MCU related ( no matter how good / bad it is ), people overall don't care about The Marvels. It's just another MCU movie and it really lacks energy.

Now you might ask: Why is there a strange feeling that the movie is lacking energy and attention? That's what Mr Kevin Feige and his team should figure out.

So, what's the main draw for this movie? How is it relevant to the MCU narrative? Why should I care about it? Guardians 3 is/was meant to be the end of the story with the characters we got to know in the past. Even Ant-Man 3 had something like the main villain to be set up for the next Phase. Now, what do we have for Marvels?

I don't think the strikes are playing a part on the lack of interest. There's something odd with the movie, the tone, the style. I think they're trying to turn Captain Marvel movie into a mix of Thor Ragnarok / Love and Thunder and Guardians all together. The tone/style is all over the place.

The visuals at least look pretty, BUT this movie has nothing going for it.

Now let's go to another serious / bombastic discussion: Is Brie the right actress for the role? I think she's a great actress, BUT I'm not feeling her character. It's not organic like Downey Jr for Iron Man, Evans for Captain. I feel it's forced. I feel she's acting and trying way too hard. Maybe the writing team isn't helping at all and a better director could get the best from her, but sorry folks, I don't think she's right for the role.  Where's the organic connection between actor and character?

I liked her in Captain Marvel 1, but I didn't like her in Endgame and I'm not interested in this sequel. I really think something happened ( behind the scenes maybe? Not sure ) and she lost her "mojo".

I'll say, review leaks is a whole new realm of movie leaks. Uncharted waters.

For those unaware, this is the guy who's leaks have mostly comprised of runtimes and trailers, so he does have legitimacy. Possibly quotes from a critics trailer spot?

I'm still not interested / excited to watch it, no matter how well is reviewed. In my view, something is off. This movie feels off. I'm not digging the style and the direction. It's "just there". It lacks energy and life and excitement.

Who's excited to watch The Marvels? Other than the fanbase ( usually the ones who already got tickets and will watch it even if it's the worst thing ever ), I don't see people saying how excited they are to watch it.

Hell, I was insanely excited to see Saw X ( loved the flick ), but I'm not feeling The Marvels. I didn't go to theaters to see Ant-Man 3? I didn't rush to the theaters to see Guardians of the Galaxy 3 ( this one I watched on discount day and it was just ok imo ). I barely have watched the MCU series. Nothing is clicking on me regarding MCU. I'm more excited to see how the Fox Universe will be integrated to the MCU. However, anything else is irrelevant.

  7. I'm sorry, but this looks a shitty movie. I liked the first one for being so cheesy and fun, but this one smells some Fant4stic crap.

Brie Larson is a great actress, but she seems off in the trailer. I don't know, she doesn't feel natural. She seems to be not comfortable for some reason.

In a nutshell, it doesn't feel organic. I'm not digging the direction and this style.

I remember someone on these forums said Saw was dead after Jigsaw and they'd never make any more.

Jigsaw made more than 100 million worldwide on a budget of 10 million. However, Spiral really underperformed / flopped, which is why some might have been worried about the franchise's future. However, Spiral ws released during a pandemic, so that might have damaged numbers a lot. These movies always had reasonable budgets, which is why we have 10 of them.

  9. That's honestly not a bad start for Saw X. A fresh Rotten Tomatoes score, double digits opening weekend, a budget of just 13 million, the 10th movie of a horror franchise, it made twice the opening weekend of Spiral. By the way, weren't there cinemas closed due to floods or something like that?

Lionsgate and the producers should be satisfied with what they got.

  10. A possible fresh tomatometer on RT ( the first for a Saw movie ) and double digits for opening weekend will probably make Lionsgate happy enough.

Saw VI was good, but it paid for Saw 4/5 sins. Saw X is amazing, but it might end up paying for Saw 3D / Jigsaw / Spiral sins. A sequel needs to keep the quality in check and be as good as X.

  11. I expect double digits for Saw X for its opening weekened. It's a movie with a 13 million budget ( not high ) and it's getting good reviews.

People shouldn't be in panic just because a 10th movie of a franchise doesn't make 20-30 million for opening weekend. Legs are probably gonna be better. Just relax.
