Does the MCU always need daddy china to cross the billion threshold ?

Out of 28 MCU movies released so far including MoM, 10 have made over $1B mark and 7 of them ( 4 Avengers Series, Black Panther, Iron Man 3 and No Way Home ) made it without China. And that's still excluding MoM which other have said and explained it would easily pass billion without China had it opened and wasn't banned in other territories. But whatever, let's just tak about facts only so MoM is excluded. The ones who needed daddy China are Civil War, Captain Marvel and Far From Home.

In total 7 of 28 MCU films or (25% of them) didn't need daddy China.

On the other hand, DCEU with 10 films so far only has 1 movie that pass $1B mark which is Aquaman but thanks to daddy China contribution. Without daddy China, Aquaman wouldn't made it. Therefore none of the DCEU films pass billion without daddy China. An outstanding 0% ratio.

Taking a bigger picture (DC brand movies) , only Joker, TDK, TDKR from DC brand that made it without daddy China.

Looking at this, I just realize something. Perhaps your question might be better and more fitted to be asked to another brand.

  2. Jurassic World trilogy has a great chance to become the third trilogy with each film grossing over $1B after Star Wars sequel and Avengers. Truly a testament about how big the brand power, nostalgia and dinosaurs in terms of pulling hype and audiences. One of the most elite and valuable Hollywood franchise. Even with okay and so-so reviews, both the predecessors clear billion mark with ease so I wouldn’t worry about this one unless it gets BvS, Morbius reception or killing all the dinosaur on screen :gold:

Most shocking box office runs of the 21st century...

    Avatar

    Black Panther

    Jurassic World

    The Force Awakens

    TOP GUN MAVERICK?

    Endgame

    American Sniper

    My Big Fat Greek Weddiing

    Deadpool

    300/Wonder Woman

The Avengers 2012 run was more shocking than most of these imo. Reached top 3 all time WW at the time when all the solo films released before can't even touch $650M + making MCU a pop culture phenomenon.

It's funny to see the trolling in here. They want MCU to fail so bad, because they are not doing what they want or how they want it. Yet the MCU just keeps winning. Some would make up anything even if it makes no sense. This is how a conversation gos with trolls when you give them facts they don't like.

The biggest always attracts lot of "noise".

  5. MCU will bounce back critical wise along the time with more movies and more stories being connected to create a bigger picture. Now feels like phase 1 all over again. Marvel introduced new heroes, create a completely new story movie by movie and trying new formula/angle to make audience keep interested in 14 years old franchise. Of course, it's understandable if some don't resonate well with audience cause fresh angle and their high expectations following the impressive infinity saga conclusion.

Remember: we're like in phase 1 again! keep your expectations in check and don't have high expectations that all releases will be event films like avengers (heck nwh technically not event film like avengers, just 1 character there spiderman + ds side performance,  just bank on nostalgia with different spideys and villains. So does MoM which is a focused film on just DS and Wanda). Audience also maybe confused and don't understand well with multiverse concept which is I must say confusing especially with an added element from D+ shows. But like I said again, time will make it clear once we've come to the bigger picture of the story so be patience!

As for box office wise, MCU still incredible. No panic at all. SC BW and Et last year maybe feels like disappointment MCU but actually impressive because of hot buzzing pandemic performance especially SC and BW. NWH - no comment on that marvelous run. And DS:MOM about to hit $200M OW and targeting over $1B WW. And they all don't even have China. Plus russia, middle east and some countries like brunei for DSMOM. Just because it's the biggest movie franchise, doesn't mean that every Marvel movie needs to make close to $2B goddamnit like NWH or need to clear $1B otherwise it's flop. And remember again: we're still on the early phase and story. Learn your lesson from 2015-2017 with those baseless rant like "MCU fatigue" "superhero fatigue" "TA is peak MCU" "MCU Will never reach that heights again" before 2018 came. HAVE PATIENCE.

The Easter weekend was, as expected, terribly quiet. Virtually all cinemas were closed on Great Friday and Great Saturday, making it into a two-day weekend (Thursday and Sunday). For many films, the Monday admissions were enough to out-gross the entire weekend. The best hold: 'Encanto', which has stayed in the Top 10 for an eye-popping 22 consecutive weekends.

This was the second long weekend in a row, thanks to the Labor Day (May 1) public holiday, which was moved to Monday, May 2. Unlike the Easter long weekend, this one is always busier (unless Easter falls on the Labor Day weekend). 'The Batman' has reached a respectable total and will probably edge close to 265K admissions, although it will not manage to out-gross 'Batman v Superman' (277K admissions). There is a very close race between 'Fantastic Beasts 3' and 'Sonic 2'. The latter may beat 'Turning Red' (77.9K admissions), to become the year's biggest kids flick. 'The Bad Guys' has crossed the 50K-admission milestone, but won't get much farther than that. 'The Northman' has managed to stay at the top for a second weekend, but is bound to fall out of favor when 'Doctor Strange 2' makes its way into theaters this Thursday. The latter's predecessor scored a 58K-admission opening, which is probably far out of reach for this one.

    Any predictions for DS:MOM opening?

  7. Hello guys. I need some insight and help for my thesis. So before currently-ongoing 34 hollywood films quota for china box office, it was 20 from 2002 until 2011. Then 2012 US-China film Agreement ratified and the quota was increased to 34 per year up until now. So I want to make sure, did the 34 quota really start in 2012 which means that 2012 chinese box office saw 34 hollywood movies being released or did it start/come into effect in the later year like 2013 or forward which means there was still only 20 hollywood movies in 2012?

Also, can someone happened to have a website that contains the full list of film that released in china with the box office number in it from 2005-2019 (better if that list gives a clear difference between which one is hollywood and which one is chinese domestic production)?

Or maybe a site that just necessarily put the list of only hollywood release in china alongside its China box office numbers from 2005-2019?

    Thanks in advance.

The Universal logo* at the beginning should probably give away that Sony has nothing to do with this one.

Ah I forgot that Sony MGM already ended their Bond cooperation. And Also I missed the Universal logo at cinema. I don't know why I always remember that Sony produced James Bond with MGM + the fact that it has crappy ending really fits with Sony who usually makes awful movie so Sony just cross my mind.

  9. I grow up watching Daniel Craig's bond. I like him a lot as James Bond. Definitely my favorite. And when I watched this, I feel sad. Same like Endgame. Cause this is his last outing amd I'll never see him play the character again. I loved all the Bond girls during Craig era especially Eva Green, Ana de Armas and Lea Seydoux 😍😍😍.

But still I'm sad watching it not only because it's Craig's last but also the ending. And now I'm still sad. And a bit angry. Like WHY THE F*CK you did my James Bond like that. I hate all the storymaker and filmmaker and all the people who come up with this shit. Better end Craig's journey in SPECTRE and never made this shit.

All in all it's a good movie tho. EXCEPT THE STORY AND THE ENDING. ARGHHH. I HATE YOU SONY AND MGM AND FUKUNAGA AND THE WRITER WHOEVER IT IS.

BW has been rated by 417 users on Douban film site since oversea debuts. The number is expected to grow dramatically as it land on Disney+.

How can the rating number will grow dramatically when Disney+ isn't even available in China right now? Also, where are that 427 ratings come from? Is it from people who viewed it through piracy or what?

@ClaudioBig thanks! One more question, any puppy or animal hurt in this? It's a deal breaker for me.

Don't know if its a spoiler or not. But just in case.

    Spoiler

That's a very little part of the story mentioned in the movie 😂. But don't worry, if you're an animal lover, you will love at about how the animals interacted and 'acted' in this. They are probably the most memorable side character. Besides Cruella isn't that cruel to vanish a little cute creature from this earth.

So I'm reading review blurbs and many say it's boring? even the positive ones are, like, too long man. Hey  @Claudio how's the pacing since you loved the movie?

At the very start or the introduction, the pacing was good. After that, it became a little bit boring (not for long tho). Many scenes that could be removed or accelerated a little bit. But it's still fine with again a great soundtrack and acting. Going to the mid until the end, the pacing was great again. I enjoyed it and didn't feel like a dragged at all. Many of my favorite parts from the movie came from here.

  13. AMAZING MOVIE. Just saw it here in Indonesia. It's like Joker + Now You See Me with better soundtrack and Disney Formula.

Comedy and Acting are top notch.

    Plot twist tho... I'm Shook!!.:sarah:

Very recommended of you want to watch a light, fun and fresh movie.

WOM, legs and total box office will be great had it released when there's no pandemic. No doubt about it.

    I'll give it 10/10.

  14. Just saw it in my local cinema. First movie I've seen in 9 months cause of the closure and the first big movie to be screened since then. Overall , I enjoyed and it's great as a standalone movie. But too bad it's also a sequel to the beautiful WW 2017. I love that movie so much. That's why I also feel some letdown with this. Maybe I expected something great like The first movie. The drama, score, story, spectacular fight and the love story ofc 😍. But.. I don't find anything as good as the 2017 had in this. Worse than the og in all those aspects. Maybe that's why the reviews tend to be mixed. Because people expecting too much and this movie can't meet their excitement eventho it's a great and enjoyable one.
