The movie will break even and bring some profit...and all that without china..so...Anyways i just hope that we get an officiall announcement about the movies fate soon bc all this guessing game from the media is annoying
It’s just when the Eternals appear in other MCU movies (without Chloe Zhao directing), they will release in China.
However it seems in China there are issues with Shang Chi and Simu Liu, which could mean anything to do with that character could be banned from China.
Can anyone give me an answer for this?
Also sorry but with the Bond and Dune getting release dates now, Shang Chi is not getting one unfortunately.

Will we been given a specific reason why Shang Chi won’t release in China now?
Or is it just a combination of everything? Honestly I think if Shang Chi is forever banned from China for whatever reason, Marvel won’t be happy and I’m sort of worried about the characters future. I hope Marvel prove me wrong.

This is hilarious. Simu just can’t do anything right with Weibo lol. A paedo sympathiser? Really?
I believe now Shang Chi probably won’t get a Chinese release but honestly, the movie never had a chance, there’s new issues everyday lol.

Just copy paste the link
Every time I copy and paste a link it doesn’t actually show the tweet, just the web link.

I don’t know how to post tweets lol. Can someone tell me how?
However you guys were right, I believe Shang Chi had an increase today. 2.58m Thursday.
-
I remember reading a tweet by a journalist when Simu was first cast that Henry Golding actually put himself forward for the role.
However Marvel said no as they wanted an actor who was Chinese.

Like honestly, this is why I was thinking of leaving Twitter.
I would hate to become famous and then have every stupid thing I’ve ever said on the internet come back and bite me in the ass. We’re not all perfect. We’ve all definitely said stupid shit in our lives. Simu did say some stupid things but it’s being completely blown out of proportion for what it is.

Good Wednesday, better than It 2 second Weds by nearly 500k

New article by Variety (still seems a bit speculative):
Hopefully Marvel don’t put Shang Chi in the background.
Would China actually ban all movies that include Simu Liu? Seems just stupid crazy. He hasn’t done anything wrong.

Kevin Feige did that interview for China and answered questions that the Chinese audience might have an issue with.
Marvel clearly care about the Chinese market and don’t want to lose it. They probably made Shang Chi because they thought it might take off in China. However I don’t see them making any changes to accommodate that market in the near future. Simu is gaining in popularity, Zhao is an Oscar winning director. Even introducing Variants doesn’t take away that Simu is THE Shang Chi.
The Marvel box office average might drop considerably for a while but imo they haven’t done anything wrong here.
Joker made a billion without China, maybe Marvel should focus their attention on markets they are not as popular in and forget about China.

I’m assuming with the lack of competition it might hold a bit stronger this weekend.
However maybe WOM isn’t as strong as we think or with the pandemic, there is still that part percentage of the audience not comfortable going back to theatres yet. All big movies might hover around 200m for a little while longer.
This weekend should tell us a lot.
However seeing Shang Chi crossing 150m today is great. I wasn’t expecting it to do this well.

Forbes saying 3.2 for Tuesday. 31% increase. Again sometimes they get it wrong so it might change.
Continuing my It: Chapter 2 comparison, it is about the same 2nd Tuesday. Maybe It just ahead by 100k as it had a 47% increase.

It’s an ok piece even though I’m not really a fan of Walter Chaw.
Shang Chi is a Marvel movie at the end of the day. He will become an Avenger and will get a seat ‘at the table’. (I don’t really know what he means here).
Adapting Shang Chi from the comic books was always going to be difficult because of his origins and being the ‘Master of Kung fu’. However I think the movie does a good job of changing it up and giving the character a better back story. I think saying it ‘Repackages racist tropes’ is a bit unfair to some extent. It is a bit generic but it definitely feels cool and inoffensive.

2.4m is pretty decent I think.
Bigger Monday than It: Chapter 2 second Monday that was in September 2019 by about 200k.This weekends drop will be more interesting though. It will give us a good idea where the movie is heading final total.

i am more worried about europe if anything...but thanfully the reception is very strong there for shang so...
Yeah might see a dip in Europe next week.
I don’t think Dune is releasing in all European countries, at least not the UK and Ireland. So should stay solid there at least.

10.7 Sunday for SC? 30% drop. I know some were thinking 35%.
Possible that’s a bit high?
-
Around 70m globally this weekend for Shang Chi is fantastic!
