  1. Crazy thought, but do you think the inevitable TG2 > MI7 by a wide margin and especially if MI7 does something like 250 mil domestic, will be deemed a disappointment?
  2. Thor 4 was a disappointment for sure, but not a disaster. It was a really weightless movie, despite all the very serious events that befell its characters. The real issue here, as I’ve said before, is the brand tarnishing: too many MCU entries have been unenthusiastically received lately and that needs to change real soon for them. Also Taika’s shtick, even his presence in interviews (look at me! I’m so energetic and quirky and cool - and potentially VERY high on something) is incredibly tiresome.
  3. https://www.the-numbers.com/news/252230830-2022-market-prediction-Maverick-gives-theatrical-business-a-giant-lift Are they, like, crazy? Do they actually have Avatar 2 at $320mil domestic?
  4. I know I'm off topic, but, having only followed GoT in later seasons, can you please explain to me in a few words what exactly was the issue/big disappointment with Season 8? Did audiences want a more cynical ending, with Cersei winning? As I see it, the (fan favorite) Starks emerged victorious, the incestuous siblings got what was coming to them, Daenerys got corrupted by power (it happens, why was it such a problem?) and Jon Snow was exiled beyond the Wall and off to his spin- off series.
  5. Revenge of the Sith Empire Strikes Back Return of the Jedi A New Hope Force Awakens Last Jedi Phantom Menace Attack of the Clones Rise of Skywalker I wasn't bothered to see Rogue One (although I've seen on YouTube and loved the shameless fan service that was the Darth Vader cameo at the end) and Solo.
  6. All jokes aside, a real atrocity of a movie. Although they had a lot of unfortunate events to juggle (Carrie Fisher's death, TLJ controversies), it is mind- boggling how bad they screwed it. I mean, the "somehow Palpatine has returned" line and the even more frustrating one uttered by a nameless in the SW universe Meriadoc Brandybuck about "Dark Science. Cloning. Secrets only the Sith would know" (Like, really b*tch? Who made the clone army and how the hell do you know it then?) alone suffice to condemn it to eternal punishment. On the flip side, I loved Rey claiming the Skywalker name which is now a symbol of heroism and rebellion.
  7. Ah yes, that movie. I especially loved the purple lady character, who blew up with the ship. I like to think that she didn't die and that she was snatched at the very last minute and went back in time in 1993, when an old gentleman named John Hammond proposed to her a very interesting trip to Isla Nublar.
  8. This is the daily box office thread and these last 24hours+, there’s been surprisingly little daily box office discussion, probably proving the importance of EC for the daily activity here. Perhaps reminiscing on a daily box office thread about the history some members share for the course of 20+ years is, I don’t know, maybe not that interesting for the more casual members?
  9. Does Paramount really think the newbies in Scream 5 are enough to substitute the legend that is Sidney Prescott? Are they perhaps attempting a diversity statement with latin and black leads? Will they dare have Gale freaking Weathers be the opening kill?
  10. Grey Man (your profile pic) reportedly cost 200 mil. I hope it delivers and how stupid of them to waste it in a tv movie. This should have played in theaters.
  11. THIS. Although he could be antagonizing, I don't think he went overboard and insult anyone in particular in that latest work related topic of discussion. I'm not sure how things were moderated here in the past, but I received warning points for being a troll (!), because I indicated that the trope of the angry/strong black lesbian in movies is a stereotype that does not do justice to the LGBTQ community. And I'm gay.
  12. Yeah, I too want EC back. He is stubborn and opinionated and condescending and sometimes he is borderline offensive, but he does bring a lot to this thread and, frankly, he is the most valuable poster. I see him as the cranky uncle who means well but has a problem expressing it/chooses the wrong way. I've never seen him calling anybody any names but again I only engage in this forum when I follow certain films (FB3 and Top Gun 2 currently). And the rant about work and the younger generation? It was his opinion. Strong/salty/unpopular/dated? Yes. But hardly reason to ban him. Peace.
  13. I am probably wrong, but is it just me or have they severely underplayed Chris Pratt through all release cycle/publicity for JWD? He is supposed to be the freaking lead!
  14. In general, maybe, but there was no doomsaying on my part. The facts are that there is no clear plotline for Phase 4, that MCU movies are not as critic proof as they used to be and that they are more frontloaded nowadays. The upcoming projects you mentioned are a good 2-3 years in the future, with perhaps the exception of Deadpool. And on the cutting down of content, it's called the all-powerful law of supply and demand, and oversaturation is a thing.
  15. https://www.ign.com/articles/thor-love-and-thunder-is-more-proof-marvel-needs-a-phase-4-goal-fast This IGN article which a fellow member mentioned a few pages ago is very true. There is no....endgame (sorry) in sight for Phase 4. Is it perhaps the schedule reshuffling because of the pandemic? After so many shows and movies, there is no clear plotline. I blame the clear downturn of Phase 4 on three factors: - absence of a compelling plotline - no new characters in the vein of Ironman and Cap, which were very compelling - deluge of content, fragmentation and generic-ness. Perhaps Black Panther 2 will change that, because it will once again have the support of black audiences, like it happened with the first one, which was a cultural event (although the last act was horrible). It is safe to say that the massive (and, at least for me, inexplicable) good will (and critic- proofness) amassed for the MCU is being trimmed down and the MCU as a whole seems to have lost its plot armor. Exciting times 🙂
  16. I hope Feige will not make the mistake of setting Moon Knight and Ms Marvel and the like as the new Avengers, assuming everyone is familiar with them and/or has watched their tv shows.
  17. I think Thor 4 will do very good, at least initially (it’s a 6/10 for me). People just love the character much more that Dr.Strange. I watch fewer and fewer MCU products these days and every time I do, I’m reminded of why the Winter Soldier is the best of the lot: less silly, off- putting humor, better balance of humor with great, crisp action.
  18. Woah now, Marty, leave the greatest trilogy in the history of the universe alone. The MCU though, no arguing there.
